What do you do for a living?

I would definitely like this. How did you get into it?

 

Manager & technician at an old one-screen theatre, worked for a Canadian telecom company earlier this summer too selling cellphones, cable, internet, etc. I've got an interview on Monday for an admin job at a real estate agency, hopefully going to get paid more than I do now. Also full time student in comp sci.

 

I work for the biggest dairy firm (monopoly situation) in my country in a 40% position (sometimes even more, longest I've worked in 1 day was 22 hours) where I send invoices to customers and also navigate the orders the warehouse workers do. I'm also a fulltime student.

 

Fulltime engineering student, currently interning at a consulting firm over the summer. Not sure yet what I'd like to do after I leave college.

 

Which engineering direction?

 

Right now I'm studying systems engineering. My previous major was computer engineering but I switched over because it wasn't really my cup of tea. Though I'm debating now whether I should switch again because I don't feel like systems engineering is right for me either, but that might put me too far behind to graduate on time. Wonder how many people end up majoring in something they don't like..

Actually not sure if I'm allowed to post, but I've been doing some software development work, which has been nice so far.

 

I'm a HS student. Currently doing freelance graphics designing as a part-time job.

 

I work as an intern at an insurance company that my friends mom owns.

 

Lol I switched majors 3 times bro, don't set your standards too high but don't place yourself in something you absolutely despise. Mind if I ask how you got your current position at the firm? I'm in comp sci and I've been looking for similar work.

my suggestion is to just apply to every consulting firm that strikes your fancy. there are a lot of them, especially if you include different kinds of consulting in your search (management, economic, strategy, sector-specific, etc.) but the application will likely be very similar, and the main application season is coming up soon (aug-sept). that and it's a numbers game so might as well invest a few days for a chance at getting a good job, imo at least

I was actually referred to them by a friend who had worked there last year, lame I know, but these guys are very big on referrals/recommendations and networking. Wish I could provide some better advice, sorry >_<

 

Consulting is all about relationships. Compared to technology companies, you don't have to demonstrate as many hard skills. You could be an average programmer (but with a 3.3+ GPA...) and still get a job in consulting. It's all emotional intelligence and communication in case interviews. If firms recruit on your campus, it's as easy as attending their events. If not, LinkedIn and the alumni database are great resources.

You have to put in the time to get results.

 

Going into 11th grade for HS next year and I have straight A's all throughout 9th and 10th grade, want to do something with developing. I'm currently Learning how to develop while making money from rs as well.

 

I work at R2 part time and I'm a student.

 

Full time student.. Hopefully doing something with computer science in the future.
