My previous job have included working as a repair technician for snowboards/skis/bindings, an equipment operator, tractor-trailer driver and now just landed the job as a career firefighter.

What do you all do?

Congrats on the new job as a fire-fighter! Were you a volunteer first, or did you go straight into career?

I'm technically "self-employed", but I'm a contractor that helps facilitate the training of individuals (mostly police) whom travel abroad (Haiti, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc.) to work as advisors. Before that I ran a small landscaping "company" with a friend. We maintained about 25-30 houses a week.

And alongside work I'm also a full-time student.

No, I was lucky to be a part of a large volunteer fire department with an extensive coverage area and an impressive fleet of apparatus. I also lived close to the station so no matter the call I was always on first truck out - tons of front line experience. Anyway, yeah five years volunteer, and fire school is the experience I have.

That sounds like a ton to be doing on your free time while not in school. I don't think I'd have the energy to keep all of that up!

Awesome, sounds like you're going in pretty well prepared.

Ha, to the contrary, it's about one week of being incredibly busy (our training is 7 days a month) and then the rest of the month is pretty dull. There's a few things going on, but I have a lot of free time in-between sessions. I will be moving in less then a month though so my job will look very different. Hopefully be commuting home for about 3-4 days a month to work part of that training week (providing my school schedule allows it w/o killing my grades).

Full time chemical engineering student. I work during the school year in the nanotechnology laboratory of my university as an undergraduate student. During the school year I also tutor first years through resources offered by the university and mark tests for some professors. Currently during the summer I'm working for a general contractor building decks, laying lockstones and other outside cosmetics for houses.
