Events

Would it be possible for something to be implemented so that when a new community event comes out players can decide to be notified? Similar to subscribing to a thread or following a user but essentially getting a notification whenever an event takes place. Most of the events don't personally interest me but there are some I like / liked and occasionally I don't notice them until they've been going for like a week (the PokeMMO event for instance, although I was out of town for the first week of it anyways so the only difference would have been like a few days) or even until they've already ended.

The reason I also feel people should be able to sign up / enable this and it should not be default is because many people may feel it's just spam / be uninterested and also people may be returning after months / years to find a million notifications for events they weren't even here for.

Additionally it could improve participation in events because i'm sure if i'm missing them (despite the fact that i'm far less active than I used to be), there are probably several more users on the website also unaware of them. I don't really see anything negative about this as long as it's a choice whether or not to receive the notification when a new event comes out.

 

Yeh I already suggested this a while back.

Cdt then used it once in tagging people in a sotm event. And then never again tagged anyone.

What I suggested was either a being apart of a group, in skype or in discord or in a subscription list which you choose if yu wish to subscribe to or unsubscribe from and whenever they wish to advertise an event they can do so. A staff member can tag these many if it's 50 plus people in a spoiler upon creation of the thread.
If ya see the posts below I mentioned it a year ago.... mentioned it twice more after that..

And other people have agreed with the idea of a mass notification.

I like the idea of a mass notification. Meaning everyone gets the alert of a new event to maximize participation. Tagging is such a terrible and ineffective way of going about this.

 

I definitely support this idea and it'll definitely bring up participation

 

I originally thought of suggesting mass notification but I figured some people may get annoyed especially if they're returning after years of inactivity to find a million notifications. Perhaps it could be solved if the notification disappeared after the event ended, not sure if this is something that can be done.

 

Either way alerts aren't too much of a bother. Just hovering over your alerts will remove all notifications. Having an expiration date is ideal though.

That's less effective than tagging users individually. Events don't have their own sub forum in community general so there would be a lot of alerts not directly tied to events.

 

Great idea tbh. Would be nice for participation and keeping people aware of what's going on. Fully support this as long as it's opt-in/out as you say!

 

Yeah this is a cool idea, other then posts from moo in discord I rarely ever stumble across these events.

 

Support, this should bring in alot more activity. Can't think of anything negative about this suggestion.

 

I'm sure there is an announcements feature that can be utilized by the admins to allow something like this to be possible. I'm definitely supportive of this ideas as this will help the community grow.

 

This would be a good addition,

If approved, there could be a group in discord and a respective channel and the only thing that would be posted in it would be information about weekly events. Similar to a #News channel or something of the sort.
