The BP oil spill

BP messed up. They've admitted that, and paid for it. $20billion, a lot of money.
Oh, I see. 20 billion equals the amount of job loss, life loss, wild-life loss, wild-life habitat loss, the damnation of Gulf Coast house owners, and more wild-life habitat loss. I wish I would have failed 3rd grade math too.

What I don't like is Obama "Bin Laden"s response. First off, it's not British Petroleum, that isn't what the company is called, it changed it's name years ago to BP, and by Obama "Bin Laden" calling it British Petroleum, he is directly attacking the closest country the USA can call an ally. Other British companies invest in BP, before this £1 in every £7 paid out in pension funds could be traced back to BP's profits. This, added to the banks form the USA fucking up - Which no-one got the blame for or had to pay out - could cause Britain to go under drastically. What's the first thing they're gonna do to save money? Pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq and leave the USA to it. Nice one Osama, oh wait, I mean Obama.

Oh, British Petroleum name-changed itself to BP... which just happens to be the first letters of both words mashed together... suspicious. By the way, he's not attacking Britain, no matter which way you're looking at it -- he's attacking the misdeeds of a corporation.

Also, Britain pulling out of the middle-east is only for the best (don't treat it as a threat).

Also.. The only reason he's not backing BP and defending them is because they're not from the USA. American companies have spilt oil everywhere, and they've not had to pay a penny. Oh.. And the gas leak in India in which 20,000 died as a result of.. An American company's fault. No-one paid a penny. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhopal_disaster Nice one Osama, oh wait, I mean Obama.

This is a fun one :) No, he's not attacking them because they're British, he's attacking them because an oil spill of this magnitude results in: job loss, life loss, wild-life loss, wild-life habitat loss, the damnation of Gulf Coast house owners, and more wild-life habitat loss. Yes, (you mean United States companies, bro) American companies have spilled oil; however, this oil spill -- when compared to Bhopal -- happened under new safety protocols, different times, different politicians (to an extent), and most importantly, a new president.

Like it or not, BP, or British Petroleum, is to blame, not to feel sorry for because they're paying for what they should have prevented.

Another thing I find odd is that you constantly (although, sarcastically) refer to him as Osama or "bin laden", but I don't understand why...

And as a personal flame-repellent, I add these following notes:
I don't endorse any political parties.

Regardless of flaming or not, the British shouldn't think they're special enough to be targeted as an entire body. You haven't been that special for a couple hundred years.

He also hasn't thought out what he's doing at all. He's directly putting pressure on BP, making them pay up, saying that the CEO should be fired, etc. Well.. If BP go under.. Whose most likely to buy it? The Chinese government, they've got bucket loads of money, and are wanting to develop. Nice one Osama, oh wait, I mean Obama.

So, something like 60% of BPs employees are from the USA? BPs profits start falling, and they can't afford so many employees as a result the president of the US criticizing them directly, they're going to lay off the American employees. Nice one Osama, oh wait, I mean Obama.

BP Stands/ Is Short For British Petrolum

In the case of Baker v. Exxon, an Anchorage jury awarded $287 million for actual damages and $5 billion for punitive damages.

Exxon appealed the ruling

BP gave 5 times as much, and volunteered. Exxon had to be sued, and then appealed it.

BP Stands/ Is Short For British Petrolum

WAS short for. That isn't the company's name. The company's name is BP now. The company is NOT called British Petroleum, it's called BP.

No, he's not attacking them because they're British,

Obama is as anti-British as you can get. He's claimed the British tortured his Kenya father. Ok.. Maybe I should have said many of the Biritsh people feel he is directly, verbally, attacking Britain, by calling the company British Petroleum when it's name is BP.

.

Who was pushing for high risk oil drilling? Osama, oh wait, I mean Obama.

With this area of sea, the American government auctions it off. BP bought one plot. It then sold 25% of this plot to an American company, and 10% to a Japanese company, partially owned by the Japanese government. Basically, it's unclear as to whom of these three companies the blame lies.

Another thing I find odd is that you constantly (although, sarcastically) refer to him as Osama or "bin laden", but I don't understand why...

Because he's as bad as a terrorist. He's a real dodgy guy. Just like Bush was, although, Bush more so.

It's funny how everyone is so quick to point fingers at BP when in reality it wasn't entirely their fault?

How do you suppose this? Sure, the initial problem wasn't their fault but it is most definitely their fault for not addressing the leak.

What about the environmental damage? The money that BP will be forced to pay doesn't solve the problem at hand, it just allows them to do the bare minimum which won't scratch the back of such a multi-million company.

Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

So who's fault is it for cutting corners and not putting on the correct safety equipment. In case something like this were to happen?

Well BP was leasing the line from another company, and although it is true that they did cut corners on the safety regulations. I do not believe they are solely responsible for the blame.

What is the evidence that they implemented anything less than the industry standard?

Drop it. BP stands for British Petroleum.

He's not attacking anyone... BP is British Petroleum, why are you persisting with this idiotic argument?

Who was pushing for high risk oil drilling? Osama, oh wait, I mean Obama.
Post that on Conservapedia and you might impress someone.Until then you're only embarrassing yourself.

Because he's as bad as a terrorist. He's a real dodgy guy. Just like Bush was, although, Bush more so.
Hang on. What exactly has Mr Obama done to provoke this vitriolic rage, apart from being black and having an unusual name?

Drop it. BP stands for British Petroleum.

BP Amoco changed its name to BP in 2000, and introduced a new corporate slogan: “Beyond Petroleum.”

Taken from Wiki. By calling BP British Petroleum, the general feeling of British politicians, and the British people is that he is attacking Britain itself. It's like calling Exxon, "Standard Oil Company of New Jersey or Jersey Standard." That's not the company's name. It changed it 10 years ago, roughly the same time BP changed to BP.

He's not attacking anyone... BP is British Petroleum, why are you persisting with this idiotic argument?

There is a sense here that these attacks are being made because BP is British.
If you compare the damage inflicted on the economies of the western world by polluted securities from the irresponsible, unchecked greed and avarice of leading USA international banks, there has not been the same personalised response in or from countries beyond the US.

Taken from an open letter from John Napier, a British businessman, to Obama.

Ok.

It's got nothing at all to do with being black, or having the name he does. There are claims, that he cannot subdue, that he was born in Kenya not Hawaii. He's a liar. Like pretty much every politician, yet you American's think the sun shines out of his arse.

I just strongly dislike the guy, because everything seems so dodgy about him. Bush was much worse though...

This video basically sums up my feelings towards BP right now.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AAa0gd7ClM

They didn't follow procedure, they didn't do anything for weeks, and they made the hole bigger. They're clueless.

We Americans?

His birth certificate is pretty clear about where he was born...

Thats the birth certificate of a woman born the day after Obama in the hospital he's claiming to be born in.

Why are they so different?

EDIT: Ok, not you Americans, just Americans. Noticed you're from Australia. Sorry.

I can hardly call myself knowledgeable on Hawaiian birth certificates, but seriously. This has nothing to do with this thread or his ability to govern.

Yeah, I agree (!), it does have nothing to do with the thread.

What does the government gain from prolonging the problem? Also its more then a hole in the ground, its a super deep hole in the ground

Ummm...well let's see. Our government is run by the democratic party right now. The democratic party's platform is against off shore drilling. What does the oil spill do? It leaves a sour taste about off shore drilling for our entire generation. What does that do? Increase the democratic popularity.

Yeah, BP fucked up and they should have put the valve in to prevent this, but the government never checked the rig. It is the government's job to govern, so if obama is gonna go out and just blame BP, then he just makes himself look like the idiot he really is.

Also, I'm pretty fuckin sure that bp didn't want this to happen and it's horrible for the company, so I don't know HOW you could possibly think bp doesn't care. That's just lawl go die in a fire

Lastly, people should be supporting bp because it is now more than ever that they need money. People are practically boycotting bp gas stations but there's 2 big problems with that. #1, BP needs the money bad, this $600 billion or w/e company is gonna go bankrupt pretty soon. #2, small business owners run those gas stations and they are effected a lot by this. Another bad thing is that bp is gonna get the shit sued out of them after this whole ordeal by people who say they were negatively effected. Some fisherman is gonna say pay me 80 grand a year because you destroyed my business (and then he's just gonna go fish somewhere else) and he'll get that 80k every year for the rest of his life. And there's tens of thousands of cases like that.

No one like the situation with the oil rig and although I don't believe obama has malicious intent, he is a retard that can only point a finger and never do something about it. You talk about bad presidents...well shit, I'd rather have bush back. This guy is seriously a dumbass. Who the fuck points fingers when they're a president? What does that do?!

God the ignorance in this world pisses me off sometimes XD gotta go cool down

That's drawing a long bow if I ever saw it.

So you're saying BP has absolutely no obligation to ensure the safety of it's operations.

Also, I'm pretty fuckin sure that bp didn't want this to happen and it's horrible for the company, so I don't know HOW you could possibly think bp doesn't care. That's just lawl go die in a fire
Sure, but how can you simultaneously hold the opinion that the government somehow wanted this to happen?

Do you expect him to be down there scrubbing rocks or something..?

Doesn't it so.

Well, there might be a tropical storm rolling through the Gulf soon. That will just make everything way worse.

I was just about to post something on this theres a tropical storm in the gulf and theres another tropical depression further out. This should mix things up.

The BP oil spill is horrible, im looking at live feeds right now and its bigger lol

Live Feeds: http://www.bp.com/genericarticle.do?categoryId=9033572&contentId=7062605

I've looked at those live feeds, I'm currently watching Skandi ROV2, It shows the oil coming out. It's coming out at an AMAZING rate.. but it just shows how much they're NOT doing.

Guys, are you forgetting that BP will be fined $20 Billion and yet Obama claims "British Petroleum". If it's so Britain then why does USA get the $20 Billion in which BP is going to pay.
If Obama thinks $20 billion will pay for the Environmental Disaster which has occured I think he needs some help. The $20 Billion will probably go to funding Coffee Machines in the White House. I doubt they'll take this money and use it for equipment to help stop the spill.

WHAT NOBODY IS THINKING ABOUT IS THE WILD LIFE BEING AFFECTED YET OBAMA STILL WANTS TO POINT FINGERS. THIS IS SRS BSNS.
I Believe that BP ignored warnings and then this has happened so all money lost is their own fault.

Is nobody actually mentioning the oil itself. We are losing oil every second and BP are more worried about financials.
