What are your views on what the government and BP oil are trying to do to help out the oil spill crisis?

I think the government knows that the methods they are trying to use right now, will not work. They just try them to keep the masses calm. What's even worse is BP oil could care less, they may say they want to help but all they care about is profit.

And what really doesn't make sense it that we made it possible for man to step on the moon, but we can't fix a hole in the ground.

What does the government gain from prolonging the problem? Also its more then a hole in the ground, its a super deep hole in the ground

They're not intentionally prolonging it, they're buying time to try to come up with some sort of a logical solution. It may be a deep hole, but they some how were able to dig that deep to get it in their in the first place..

The techniques used by the government COULD work, if they weren't being so inefficient with it.

The ability to do that took decades of development, and the idiotic oil companies never thought that investing in safety procedure would be a good idea.

The only one that had the possibility to work was the concrete/mud idea, and even that didn't work.

They knew it was a good idea, they bought their way out of having to install a back-up emergency shut-off switch though.

Why do you even bother with this crap? The federal government has suspended all drilling below 500 feet in the Gulf, BP are losing millions of dollars every day.

And what really doesn't make sense it that we made it possible for man to step on the moon, but we can't fix a hole in the ground.
A hole 1500 metres under the sea gushing oil is, quite clearly, not very easy to plug.

Who the hell are you to make these stupid assertions? Last I checked, you're not a geologist.

you are awesome

they should have had a stop valve in the pipe and if it ever busted, which it has now, they would be able to pull the stop valve and the oil would not be gushing all those millions of galls of oil into the Gulf. Then they could take a piece of metal down there with there robots and weld it in place, and finally they could release the stop valve.

But are people that smart as a group? No, just how it is.

They are honestly coming up theorizing things more than performing them. I know a hole this deep isn't very easy to plug, But honestly there are plenty of logical answers.

What are some of these logical answers?

The government shouldn't be to blame for the oil spill. The blame is on British Petroleum. Yes the government should take some responsibility, but no the blame.

BP were cutting corners, and trying to make a bigger profit.

The situation is no different than the Challenger. The hydrogen tank seals were not up to standards on one space shuttle, but they decided to launch it anyways, nothing happened. Next shuttle has the same problem, launched it anyways, nothing happened. Then it was the Challenger. It was cold outside, making the tank seals brittle. 10 seconds after launch the Challenger explodes, killing everybody inside.

Morale of the story is when the pressure is on, and things don't meet up to expectations. If they get away with it. They'll do it again, thinking nothing is going to go wrong, until something terrible happens.

The government is not doing all it can, if it were truly devoted to clearing up the spill it would already be done. They could clean it as fast the words come out of their mouth, and they also should make special sanctuaries for the animals effects by the oil spill

It's funny how everyone is so quick to point fingers at BP when in reality it wasn't entirely their fault?

So who's fault is it for cutting corners and not putting on the correct safety equipment. In case something like this were to happen?

Nuke it. Easy answer, very serious. That's how the Russians dealt with their oil spills.

take a physics course, the amount of pressure being released from that hole makes it merely IMPOSSIBLE to patch it. Because it is so deep is makes it far more tricky to fix.

Think of it this way, a fire hose vs a house fly. The house fly being a 1000 Tonne chunk of concrete, and the hose being the hole.

BP messed up. They've admitted that, and paid for it. $20billion, a lot of money.

What I don't like is Obama "Bin Laden"s response. First off, it's not British Petroleum, that isn't what the company is called, it changed it's name years ago to BP, and by Obama "Bin Laden" calling it British Petroleum, he is directly attacking the closest country the USA can call an ally. Other British companies invest in BP, before this £1 in every £7 paid out in pension funds could be traced back to BP's profits. This, added to the banks form the USA fucking up - Which no-one got the blame for or had to pay out - could cause Britain to go under drastically. What's the first thing they're gonna do to save money? Pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq and leave the USA to it. Nice one Osama, oh wait, I mean Obama.

He also hasn't thought out what he's doing at all. He's directly putting pressure on BP, making them pay up, saying that the CEO should be fired, etc. Well.. If BP go under.. Whose most likely to buy it? The Chinese government, they've got bucket loads of money, and are wanting to develop. Nice one Osama, oh wait, I mean Obama.

So, something like 60% of BPs employees are from the USA? BPs profits start falling, and they can't afford so many employees as a result the president of the US criticizing them directly, they're going to lay off the American employees. Nice one Osama, oh wait, I mean Obama.

Also.. The only reason he's not backing BP and defending them is because they're not from the USA. American companies have spilt oil everywhere, and they've not had to pay a penny. Oh.. And the gas leak in India in which 20,000 died as a result of.. An American company's fault. No-one paid a penny. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhopal_disaster Nice one Osama, oh wait, I mean Obama.
