hmmm, interesting. why INTC? BIIB i looked into a lot more in the past so don't wonder at your interest

on the topic of earnings, UNP got killed today. not sure if i'm holding onto a dud... EOG is looking lousy too

UNP looks like a buy now to me. What price did you pick it up at? Looks like they under-performed their estimates on this last quarterly. Off the top of my head I think it was released yesterday? Could explain the dip but I would hold on and even buy a few more if you can afford it. You shouldn't be taking more than a ~6% loss in it though if you've held on for too long you're playin it wrong (in my opinion).

I can't tell you much about EOG unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with it. Is it oil related?

I like INTC now because
1) It's a good company, stock essentially dropped because of lack of PC sales, not because of an issue at INTC
2) INTC will benefit off the expansion of the "Internet of Things" and datacenters (I like MLNX here too, speaking of datacenters and the future of that sector)
3) Declared quarterly dividends, should attract more investors to at least drive the stock up for a short-term trade. Dividends to me tell me that an (established) company is confident in their strength and has positive expectations
4) It's cheap. Buy up

these are just a bunch of my opinionssss though I'm no expert

edit: speak of the devil I just came across this article on INTC that I really agree with: http://seekingalpha.com/article/3338885-how-intel-doubles-in-size-from-here

edit 2: So I bought into BIIB. Kill me now it was doing well after hours and opened down almost 20% ahhhhhh

ahhhh SA articles, haven't read one of those in a while :p

EOG - yes, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EOG_Resources

INTC - i think lagging computer/processor sales are probably pretty bad for intel. maybe the ioc stuff will help out, but i'm not convinced (though you've obviously looked into it more than i have!)

BIIB - saw that this morning. rip in peace

UNP - ehhhh, not thrilled about it honestly. i paid around 105-110 iirc

Damn nice portfolio value, what did you start with? Also do you leverage your portfolio or is that all cash?

Thanks but the cash isn't necessarily mine (all of it anyways). Grandma is pretty wealthy and let me manage her cash after freshmen year. We started at 300k. I don't leverage my (our?) portfolio because it's quite frankly too much money for me to invest without freaking out about messing up. It's all cash right now anyways

i thought you were an intern. mb if that's not true lol

Yeah I'm an intern bro read above I'm not really rich. I'm 19, not quite 20

I've really wanted to get more into small investing pools. But I need to do more research on things, I have some stock in a small business and like only a couple thousand dollars in a large food chain.

Why so many people so hesitant to say exactly what they're in? There's like 3 of us here it's not going to endanger any of your trades

I am going to quote a post I made a bit ago on another thread that relates to this thread and is showing one of my investments. I will be reading this entire thread and quoting stuff you guys said with questions and comments to put in the next post I make. Keep in mind these are very short term investments for just SMALL amounts of money. This is that extra money to buy the new phone or grill, NOT to retire on.

I want you to thoroughly read these two important threads and I will note the last edited dates of the original posts. It is important you read the entire Stock Recommendation thread because I go into extreme detail regarding the process I use and the risks and potential gains. The second thread is posted (Last edited by Anet390 : 12-06-11 at 06:17 PM.) was a Stock Watch that I showed in the first thread would have been very profitable if investments would have been short term. After you read the threads continue reading this thread and I will show you proof that I myself made a profit off the Stock I was recommending. Remember, Short-Term is risky so this is not for your $25k, keep that in very safe funds or accounts. This is for the 1-2k you are looking for bigger returns on. The investment is still safe because a majority of stocks selected by myself are stable economically and industrially, meaning they will be required so long as society is functioning based on resources and sales.

Stock Reccomendation

Anet390's Stock Watch

The stock I was recommending was NXTD. Because of the "noob" aspect of this new technology company seeking vast distribution (currently), I mentioned that investments must be kept small. Many said I never put my money where my mouth was, or at least had never really openly showed proof.

Here are pictures of my Buy and Sell offers being executed. I had two identical orders of the 250 shares, I sold one later that day for the same holding 3.03.

rrM3Y9s.png

This first picture is an email from my broker with my order to buy 500 shares at the opening price which ended up being 2.58. 500 [email protected] plus the $8 trade commission puts me $1,298 in NXTD.

--------------->

This next picture is the first execution of the 250 sold shares @ 3.03 which is 757.5. Two order executions of 250 (one at 3.02) puts me at ~$1515 with two fees totaling to about $15-16 dollars making the return $1500.

------------>

My investment was $1,298, call it $1,300. My return was $1500. This leaves me with $200 PROFIT. I got a 13.3% Return on Investment in the about two and a half weeks I held the stock.

I have more proof of successful investments and am open to just discussion on investing, even if you choose your own stocks. I do not charge for discussion, but I would have to charge for exact stock recommendations. I can show them after I sell though.

Why not just post your YTD profit/loss or all time P/L instead of specific trades? Why are you using Fidelity with position sizes so small? and if you're going to be throwing your money into unidirectional bets on random small-caps why aren't you using options to atleast lower the $$$ you risk losing.

Hope the money youre using isnt important to you because i doubt youll keep it long

Because I'm a minor, I didn't want an individual account yet. I currently trade in a sub-portfolio of a family members account. The money being traded is my own via transfer but not legally under my name.

As for posting more info and portfolio YTD, I don't really feel comfortable sharing much more than a few select trades. Mostly because it's not my account.

I tend to agree

but you're 16 you're learning its a good place to start but just know there's a lot to learn and that isnt the best avenue for revenue. As for recommending stocks and other things like that....I'd refrain from doing so until you understand what you're doing entirely

Honestly I think you guys are really overestimating the trading I do. I've done maybe 3-4 total trades at best and all have been relatively low amounts of my own money. I do not and never did plan on making a real source of income from these risky trades.

I agree they are risky and sometimes unidirectional but they certainly aren't random. There is still some substance to the choices I make, so don't discredit it as me just investing in random companies.

As for the stock recommendations, I never intended to actually convince somebody of a stock I think will be successful. Recommendations are just that, a recommendation. They are in no way a requirement and all should be taken with a grain of salt, especially from a 16 year old.

Just to repeat it again because nobody seems to understand:
The money I am investing at the moment is essentially a drawing book to me. Even if I overpay a bit for the drawing book, as long as it makes me a better artist via trial and error and learning by doing, so be it.

I do lots of virtual money trading as well to test out my unpolished trading skills.

I want you to watch PLUG power tomorrow [Tuesday]. I'm not going to specify when I bought in but I will say it was a bit high, but I am predicting some really nice rise throughout this week, plus the market was down today [Monday] anyway.

Side Note; Today [Monday ~7pm] PLUG announced the buying of the rest of their (80% + 20% already owned) joint company for ~11M common stock of PLUG, which I think is why the stock obviously fell today [Monday] because of the flood of shares.

PLUG closed up +3.02%. Believe my wizardry yet? Kidding. But in all seriousness, it's nice to see the market (Dow J) pick up +1.09% after a decent fall in the past week.

edit: Continue watching PLUG this week. I think tomorrow will be pretty stable with -.5% to +.5% change at best. I think it'll close the week around $2.50-2.55
