    Lol'd at vague reference *cough*

Everything is still way over moderated. Getting an infraction for calling a mod pathetic over PM, getting an infraction for harmless jesting in sandbox, etc. Those have been my recent personal experiences, and all its done is left a bad taste in my mouth.

I mean hell, my first infraction ever was a "signature violation" when my signature was within the allowed space. Even after sending my signature to the mod who gave the infraction it was never reversed, she told me I must have re-sized it which is bullshit clearly lol.

    +1

This has been the biggest turn off for me. I enjoy a lot about the forum, but it is terrible in this department. Staff are treated as this golden untouchable usergroup and they feel the need to punish users whenever they can. I mean fuck they get rewarded for it. Its all at the cost of the experience of the end user.

Even down to the way the rules are written.

    Regular user:

    Golden staff members:

Enforcing it the same way for everyone would take no extra effort, yet its written this way.

Another example is the "no shit talking policy" in the spam forum. You aren't allowed to speak negatively of a mod or they can infract you/delete your post or thread.

If you leave negative feedback about a mod, they're free to delete it and personally lock the thread.

    etc etc etc

The current structure is outright bad and guaranteed to cause dissatisfaction. That coupled with RS going down the drain are definitely huge contributes to the numbers in the chart.

Idk.. To me the staff are being pretty lenient when it comes to moderating reported posts. I get what you're saying, and you're within your right to post whatever it is you want if it follows the guidelines of the forum rules, but at the same time I think it's up to the discretion of staff to make certain calls that doesn't necessarily follow word for word what the rules are to subsidize appropriate behavior. It's definitely easier to just comply with what they want because more than often there won't be a reversal no matter how you try to interpret your side. I'm not talking about your incident with calling a moderator pathetic and being punished for it because that's tyrannical.

Could it have something to do with the reshuffling of those sections? ie now at the bottom of the forum?

Not sure. I doubt it explains all of it. Some of it may be that and some of it may be that we have more subsections now so the individual ones look less active. Govind could do some SQL queries and get more information or I could do some basic data mining but that would have to wait a couple weeks when I am done with school.

The inactivity of the spam forum and all community sections is a direct result of high-community focsed members being banned for things not related to market procedures. Too much "**********" going about.

As for advertising, we have none. I'll be using my CDT position to attempt to change that. I'm starting with Gaming General, but shortly my hope is to find incentives for new users and increase a positive user flow towards Sythe.

This is a pretty big gripe of mine, banning folk for drama/being crude when they use majority-community sections with the odd market trade is the opposite of how it should be done.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I know you said there would be issues with grabbing the market data, but I think it'd be interesting even in larger data grabs v. individual market forums.

I don't really take seriously spam forums and I am assuming that most peeps on here have more important stuff to do rather than sitting on here ( excluding the kids and the people who do biz on here ) there's no many ppl left on here due to irl stuff.. It will slowly go down but not really much. There will be always the "few" ones and it will get stuck on a "common number of members". But hey, that's just my point of view about all this. Anyways I enjoyed the years I have been active on this forum and I really enjoyed how things worked before ( 2k11-2k12 ) but now it's just the same bullshit over and over again, the same people posting shit on the SF, 90% of the posts are not funny. There isn't the same quality as there was years ago. Anyways, we'll see how this website ends up but I can't guarantee this will last forever with the people that this forum had years ago. Just sayin'.

The only issue is that I did this manually and there are so many market subsection it would be a pain. The data may also not go back all that many years since I think a lot of them got archived at some point.

Fwiw, this is a cool data scraper for chrome I've used in the past. It's not perfect (still being developed/new stuff added frequently), but it might cut down on some manual scraping time. https://www.kimonolabs.com/

For me, I haven't experienced any "leniency." Any time where the moderator has any kind of "discretion" they immediately go to the infraction because they're rewarded for it. And they will have no negative consequences, it can't really be disputed. Reversed by a higher up rarely, etc. And of course it'll remain on your profile forever, even if reversed or expired. Which I find absurd.

They can though. If you post a specific thread in the feedback section they'll lock/delete it because they can.

RIP 2011 days. Thats when Runescape was booming. Theres a direct link between runescape activity and sythe activity.

Runescape is dying and Sythe is going along with it.

I have no idea why Rich wont move away from the runescape theme this forum has. Maybe its too much work for him. Not worth his time?
