    Why is Sythe always down?
    You will just have to get used to sythe.org being down from time to time.
    It's free and it's not like we are the one paying for the server.
    Sythe.org is quite popular and has many viewers and users everyday, makes it really popular.
    Hence why it has been a target from many one.
    Just my opinion. :)

    If I remember correctly, he is getting a great deal on hosting and trusts the host... If you want a better host start donating a few hundred bucks a month...

    Just FYI, the next level of hosting is basically CDNs which start at around 1500 a month and go up steeply.

    I wouldn't pay $1,500 a month unless the host stayed up constantly. I know of hosts that would be more around $150 a month and would give the same quality..

    Do note that Sythe is a magnet for DDoS attacks and thus it's impossible at some times to keep the site up no matter how much money we invest in the hosting.

    Well, that's where you're wrong. If you invest a lot of money into the hosting you could be pretty much immune to the amount of DDoS attacks, especially if you get 24/7 support.

    I'm pretty sure Sythe pays around $300 a month for hosting, so $150 wouldn't be any better.

    Well you could still upgrade to a better dedicated server for half the price of a CDN.

    Yahoo!'s web hosting is $12 a month. It features PHP/MySQL 4 and very limited functions on the host itself. (It doesn't even have error reporting!) Deisehost is $2 a month and offers much more, including PHP/MySQL 5, error reporting, and much more. Obviously, price is not the only factor in how good a host is.


    Think about InvisionFree/ZetaBoards: How many boards do they host with over 1,000,000 posts and several hundred thousand users? How many of those forums get DDoS'ed? Obviously they are doing something right if they go down less often than Sythe.

    That's true, I could potentially upgrade from dual cpu dual core to dual cpu quad core. I might negotiate that with my host after exam period is over.

    Why is Sythe always down?
    That's just stupid. No one is going to give you a free ride. Cpu-time and bandwidth cost money. If you are consuming the equivalent of a dedicated server and several terabytes of bw a month, that's going to be costing them at least $200 per month. So why would they retain you on a $12 a month contract? Simple: they wouldn't.


    They have big highly distributed CDNs. It doesn't matter if one branch of their network goes down, the load is redistributed onto the other servers. This is possible due to the economy of scale.
