You can read the Bible or say a silent prayer in school if you want. Nobody can really stop you.

Cruel, I would think it's less wise to found your beliefs of the universe on what you don't know.

Wrong, yet again. You cannot bring things like a Bible to public schools, or say a prayer, or talk about prayer or any religions for that matter during school.

I've known people who have gotten suspended for a day or multiple days, all the way up to expulsion when the parents wouldn't agree to their children never talking about his religion and/or reading the Bible when he had all his other work done.

EDIT: That goes from first grade all the way up until twelfth grade I've seen it happen.

Very well put, atheists are very looked down upon, i think that this is because basic religion has been around MUCH longer than conventional science, therefore it has deeper roots in the human culture. I believe we should worry less about where we came from and where we'll go after death, and more on improving human living conditions.

However i disagree that without religion the world would be more peaceful. Humans are naturally aggressive, we will find something to be angry about and more than likely we will find an instigator. As long as humans can have ANY trait or possession, there WILL be conflict.

That's ultimately the same considering you/we know very little, but I agree with you.
However, that's not the only alternative basis.

We have silent prayers at our school. Not sure if we are aloud to bring the bible in there, but whatever.

Hmmm I first percepted this as a highly interesting thread but I was mistaken. Anyway my thoughts are that you are simply free to do as you like. In my country atleast, atheist are not the lowest lifeform nor do other religions get benefits other people don't get. Don;t forget that atheism is as much a religion as say christianity. The belief in no God is as much as religion as believing in one or despising one.

when i first read this i thought perhaps it had merit because i am sometimes unaware of benefits that i have that others dont. however upon further consideration i remembered a few things. atheists were excused from like 5 school assignments that we had all through elementary school because the assignments involved christmas. they didnt have to make it up or anything. and im not allowed to do anything in school that any atheist cant. as for civil rights, noone has given me any sort of decent example. so i pretty much think this is a bullshit argument. i agree that sometimes christians get judged more positively. i dont think religions in general do because where i live theyd rather an atheist then a muslim. its all ridiculous perception of people but i dont think it plays into basic rights.

    You're joking.

    That's absolutely outrageous.

I'm English, and atheist, and I would be disgusted if that had happened to any theists around me. However, there is no such rules or laws in England like that.

Yes, it is. As for the person who posted a few above, you are wrong, or atleast partially. In most public schools you ARE NOT ALLOWED to read the bible during school or even on school campus. I have personally had people that I've known get suspended for doing such. They simply took a bible out and was reading it in one of their classes at their desk. His teacher came over and said he wasn't allowed to have that at school, he refused to give the teacher his Bible, so he got suspended for several days.

I've even seen people get expelled if their parents when they come in don't agree to have him not bring a Bible anymore.

If someone finds that hard to believe, it really isn't. Most public schools have even stopped saying the pledge of allegiance simply because it has the words "under God" in it. Quite sad, eh? People say it offends them when we use God, period. Well, it offends me when I'm not allowed to use it.

Are you sure about this? I've never seen any school that doesn't allow Bibles to be brought to school, although that could be because I live in Arkansas. If someone got expelled they could easily take it to court and win.
