How long does everyone think its going to take marijuana to become legal?

With everything done it seems to me that it's not a question of about "If" its going to become legal but "When" it's going to become legal honistly.

To answer your question and to end this argument from the root. I shall answer it now.

Nobody knows. It would of course be logical to legalize it but who can say what will happen?

    Honestly* :p

In my opinion I believe that marijuana will never be recognized widely as "legal" due to the fact that it is so hard to control. The plant can be grown pretty easily by anyone, anywhere, for a relatively small cost. This means that home production would be major, something which would not be good for governments. Take alcohol and cigarettes as examples, not the easiest things to produce yourself and therefore it is easy for the government to control tax, licenses etc on these products.

It's hard to say with the drug though, it's evident that it does have medical qualities with relatively low side effects; something which cannot be said of a high percentage of modern medicines. I find it hard to believe that governments cannot recognize the medical importance of something which is so natural, but therein lies the problem with most modern day governments, they simply do not think rationally unfortunately.

great point, but still just because the government can't tax it dosnt mean it wont become legagl. They would find a way eventually, because if it becomes legal, THOUSANDS of people are going to want to start selling it legally in there own stores, therefor can be taxed by the store, they would then be able to regulate some of it, but i guess it's just an idea :p

Also, if a country were to have open minded laws regarding the use of marijuana then they would see an increase in tourism much like that of the Netherlands, another good point to consider in my opinion.

Although I feel that it is hard to draw comparisons regarding drug uses with countries such as the Netherlands. Their society and approach to drugs and even life in general differs greatly from that of lets say the USA or the UK. It's hard to realistically try and assume how a certain country would react to relaxed drug laws, I certainly don't think every country would be the same. I'm most definitely an advocate for medical use of marijuana, I don't see how it can be used negatively in a social context either, as I believe alcohol has much worse effects on individuals with regard to violence and crimes, yet it remains a perfectly legitimate.

You need to remember though, most governments take a harsh stance on drugs, even softer ones such as marijuana and to suddenly retract these ideals would probably impact negatively on themselves. Making them seem indecisive or confused regarding their core values.

Once the older generations withdraw from power/congress and the new generations start to take over, then it may be a possiblity that'll happen even sooner then expected, but for now, I have no fucking idea, and I love it, one less thing to be taxed on, in my opinion.

I'm not sure about the position in the US, but I don't see it ever becoming legal in Australia. It's not something which is debated often, and the general consensus is it's the wrong thing to do and shouldn't be allowed.

Wow, that really does blow :/ Sorry to hear that.

I agree they have too many things that they tax, with this defisate that our country is in, it might help bring us out of it, i mean it's billions of dollars but marijuana is the biggest cash crop in the United States...Thats saying something..for it being illegal. I'de say it's like reccord breaking in a way, nothing has ever become so big, being as illegal it is....it's pretty amazing

(sorry if that didnt make sence) LOL :p ^^

That's another thing, why is a plant as important/useful as that illegal?
When you have tobacco being sold on every other corner, causing cancer?
People need to wake up and realize what they're supporting.

Yeah, like marijuana might be somewhat addictive, but if you start smoking it, your going to be smoking it because 1. you need to smoke it for something. or 2. because your a stoner and you just want to smoke, but i'de rather have half the world high every day, than watch people die young of lung cancer ect. ya know?

Marijuana will never be legal and it should stay that way. There is no benefit to any current smoker nor is there a benefit to legalizing it.

Legalizing it will save the government (and ultimately the taxpayer) money as they will not have to pay for police raids and for the upkeep of imprisonment of those that are caught with possession of, or dealing, marijuana.

Personally, I smoked weed about twice a week, so maybe my opinion will be a bit bias. However, legal or not, I will still smoke that weed as and when I want, usually in my own home, so my chances of being caught are extremely slim. If I want weed right now, all it takes is a single phone call and I will have it within 15 minutes, there really is no point in it being illegal.
