What's do you perfer? Windows xp or Vista?

I use to have windows xp, but I changed the skin into vista. My vote would have to be for vista only for the looks, for other things, it would have to be windows xp.

 

XP, I mean.. Vista is alright, but it's more like a box with important stuff in it with a lock on it which you can't unlock.

EDIT: I am using Vista though xD

 

I dislike Vista strongly, unless you spend huge amounts of cash on a super computer then I would want XP.

i prefer xp.....maybe you should remake your question and put some linux systems, or the mac os into the mix.

 

I use Vista but it's all fluff. Pointless but fun. I prefer it but it has a longer loading time on my computer.

I don't have that much experience with Vista, so I have to say XP.

I really like it to, only the looks, from the sound of it, people don't like it because of the way they run and stuff.

 

I like my XP for when I am doing stuff such as coding, dowloading, and gfxing and the such. I only use my vista because of the sleek look and for media, also for forums and web browsing, nothing serious.

 

That's a good reason to use it. I only use XP for anything else, but my homework.

 

I use XP and am more used to it, so I 'like' it better... but I have friends with Vista and I really don't see the problem, I'm fine with using both.

I think XP is far better than vista. All Vista does is provide a better GUI (in turn uses more system resources) as well as more problems for the user.

 

I use whatever is available (Preferrably Linux, tbh).

I quite like Vista and the way it handles things as oposed to XP. The memory management is a big step ahead (If you wish to know how it works, read the next paragraph). I can agree that Microsoft DID focus on the wrong things, such as Aero (which is eye-candy more than useful, and it's just a marketting tactic to be honest). However, overall I don't mind vista. Mind, both operating systems have their flaws, which is innevitable - if humans aren't overall perfect, can they be expected to create something perfect in the first place?

Okay, so the Vista memory management system is what I like about the new OS a fair deal more from previous versions. Speeds up processes considerably, and increases overall effectiveness. Microsoft has implemented what they call "SuperFetch" (If the name is wrong, excuse me, I haven't studied the matter for a while), which basically automatically loads the memory of commonly used processes automatically, and fills the RAM that isn't being used for fast allocation. After all, unused RAM is wasted RAM.

Hence, SuperFetch can profoundly increase load-times for commonly run tasks, which saves a lot of time in many cases. I happen to have a 3-year-old laptop which has some of the worst specifications I've seen since the early 2000s, and yet Vista runs on it as smooth as XP could ever be (if not, faster). It has automatically detected what resources I have, and enabled and disabled such features as needed. In example, Vista automatically detects my laptop can't handle Aero very well (due to the crummy Intel video card) and doesn't install it.

Leading back to my original statement, I don't care solong as I can use it.

 

Vista doesn't require a supercomputer, just a modern computer.

People also need to realise that Aero is not simply eye-candy. Aero is run by the Desktop Window Manager, which is a completely new system that places much of the GUI work on the graphics card (as opposed to the CPU). This frees up the processor to do other stuff and also allows for really sexy GUIs.
