User-Staff Committee

Are these gonna be like an actual rank or just posted somewhere?

Like how do people know who and how to get ahold of the "members"

 

There will be a list in the thread and we are going to make sigs for people to use. In the future an offical rank would be nice but we wanted to start it without any staff involvment at all.

Any suggestions as to how to get involved with this? Obviously being fairly unknown on Sythe, it's unlikely some people (myself included) would be nominated, but is there a way to get involved in other ways?

 

When we start doing work, we'll be listing a section of everything we're taking part in. Team members will be required to play a large, but the main thing we'd need from non-team members is showing support/spreading the word about current issues.

Mainly, getting involved would be the best thing those who aren't nominated can do. If we are supporting a suggestion, show your support by providing your feedback/opinion in that suggestion. If there's a forum wide problem with a staff member, bring it to our attention or be respectful towards that staff member and keep the matter private.

Nominations will be ran almost all the time, but voting will only occur when we have open spots. So if you get involved enough, get to be well known, and show the positive traits that are listed on the main post, you're likely to be nominated by someone sooner or later. If not, you can just ask someone you know to nominate you. You'll be added to a poll regardless, but don't do this too much because then you'll have to work to get their votes as well!

 

Surely asking someone to nominate you slightly defeats the point of the nominations, because they should be for people who have earned the right to be nominated...

But I'll keep an eye on this thread and try to get involved as much as possible, for a 'non-team member' anyway. Thanks for the response.

 

If a person can persuade someone else to nominate them, then they meet one of the qualifications of a team member. They're connected . However, nominations will be posted on the voting thread, and voters are encouraged to look at the quality of the nominations and such, rather than the number of nominations.

 

I suppose that's right, but the voting is where it helps to be well known. If nobody's ever heard of you, it's unlikely they will vote for you. It may be intended to be equal, but votes like that always end up as a popularity contest of some sort.

Why do you think this person will make a good U.S.C member: He's probably one of the most respected members here on Sythe in most of the staff's eyes and some of the users as well. He's been an ex-moderator many times, as well as being an ex-UE, while holding the OMM title rank. He's always had a good opinion about things and as always had a thing for helping those in need. Please consider him for the spot. Thanks.

 

In order to establish it, we decided to take the lead until it takes off. So it wasn't a dictatorship, we agreed that both of us being lead would make it easier to eventually run into just a committee. When we have the team, and everything is running smooth, SuF and Myself have both agreed that a system for team rankings (jobs) will be put into place. While it will be one persons job to manage the votes/nominations, it will be another person's job to, say, post new threads that we've discussed need to be posted.

We don't intend to remain the leaders, as we would like it to be a fully functional team that runs based on the hard work of everyone. So, when the team is ready to go, things are running smooth, then discussion will be started with the team members on who should do what, and stuff like that .

 

I have 5 minutes, so I'm not reading Deacons reply. I felt really bad about being a self appointed ruler. I don't want it to seem like we are just being the dictators at the top of the latter. The plan has been from the start to get the committee going with our guidance and once it is firmly implanted create a system for which leaders are selected. I was thinking that bylaws of sorts should be created, but I didn't want me and Deacon to be creating all the rules on how the committee would be run as we wanted the users to have control over it and more opinions than just our own. For now, it will be run by us. Later, (hopefully soonish) others can take over or users can give their feedback on who they want.

 

He has posted already, on the second page. His post seems to show that he does not mind it all, and instead enjoys the action being taken.

Given that we are not attempting to do anything that would involve staff approval, I don't believe too much approval is in order. We are trying to bring users to be more involved in community matters such as suggestions, feedback, etc, not take over staff matters/assert ourselves as an authority.

However, if there is something involved in what we intend to do that is not allowable, then we will see if a compromise cannot be reached.

 

If you have alarm, Finn, rest assured that all of our activities and intentions will be made 100% public in this. Staff has to deal with a lot of user questions, concerns, comments, and they're all unorganized and messy. Many of them are ignored because of this, and so one of our main goals is to prevent this from occurring and increase the effectiveness of the user's opinions.

So yeah, everything we do will be announced as soon as it is discussed, there will be no hidden agendas or anything like that .

As an ex-staff member, I believe T R 1 B A L to have the necessecary qualities for a member of the U.S.C. He has shown, even after having been demoted (requested), that he can be a valuable asset to the community. Though he is not active in many sections, his graphics poweress is well known in the graphics section of the community. He is both active, and has shown repeatedly that he has the ability to temper arguments between users, and can promote valid ideas with ease.

I already answered your question. What do you mean including the least amount of people possible?

 

SuF or Deacon.
Will their be terms that you can stay on the committee?
Will it be in board for (President, Vice-President, Head of X, Head of Y) or just the 2 team leaders and participants?
Will the leadership positions be up for reelection, and if so, will it be by the members of the USC or by the community?
Additionally, will you and Deacon be the leaders/on the committee, or are you just in place to set it up?
