I'm not saying everyone go back to black-powder weapons. What i am saying is that the law was brought out century's ago. What i do think should happen is the law be updated to relevant times.

Yah when you're only proving an argument as to why YOU shouldn't own a gun...and your argument is only proving that there is a problem to the process of obtaining guns, such as lack of psych evals. Something I'm sure you couldn't pass...I hope you get help, though.

1: It is not an argument on not owning a gun, i like the fact that in america you can have a weapon to protect yourself, i just feel they are too easy to obtain, and too many high powered weapons are available. You can go into a store and buy say a shotgun for the same price as an Xbox360 or a PS3 which i dont agree with.

No, it DOES matter how it happens. A person with an MP5 can easily kill 27 people.
If he had a gardening tool, you know it somewhere in your thick, NRA skull that he would have been stopped before it reached that # of fatalities.

IT'S SO SIMPLE. GUN CONTROL RESULTS IN LESS GUN-RELATED DEATHS. HOW DOES MORE GUNS RESULT IN LESS GUN-RELATED DEATHS. WHY IS THIS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND.

YES! Let's just make guns illegal! That will take them off the street and solve the problem! Come to think of it, we should do this with meth, crack, heroine, prostitution, rape, and anything else really! Great idea!

So when that guy who was going to shoot up a place can't get a hold of a gun, but he REALLY wants to kill people, he'll just make a simple to make home made explosive!

Gun related deaths may lower, but why do you think homicides in general would lower?

This is why you make them harder to get and increase laws about keeping them locked when not in use and what not. Don't ban them. Regulate them. Be smart about it and most people can still have their guns.

Exactly, people like the person you quoted on both sides of the argument is why there can be nothing done. One extreme side says ban them, and the other extreme side says give them all fully automatic rifles and they won't budge so gun control has become a political no mans land.

You fucking imbecile. I never said we should make guns ILLEGAL.
I'm saying HEAVILY-REGULATED GUN CONTROL will prevent MOST gun-related deaths.

No high powered guns should be available for sale to the public. I think high caliber handguns should be the most that should be available to the general public. Shotguns should require a strict license with mental tests and training required before someone can purchase one. There should also be a limit on how many firearms you can purchase in a set period, i.e. 10 years.

Assault rifles, sub-machine guns, should all be banned from sale and use. Except by the military and police. No one really requires an assault rifle in their home. You are not fighting a war, the 2nd amendment exists for citizens to defend themselves, an assault rifle is way over the top for self defence. Most of these massacres are conducted with assault or automatic rifles.

Not true at all. That is a false assumption. I can easily go to my local neighborhood hoodlum or gangbanger and with enough money I can buy a gun with the serials scratched off so it's untraceable. It isn't hard to get a gun if you live in or near a metropolitan area. Hell, I know that and I live in the middle of nowhere in the mountains. Look at the drug cartels that transport thousands and thousands of guns in and out of the US every year. They're so many undocumented firearms that it isn't even funny, and the thing is that they're not hard to get. So regulating gun control to a point where it is nearly impossible to get a gun is no solution. Moderated gun control with a firepower limit (ie you can't sell about x caliber) is more the way to go.

I agree with Sly. Why the hell does someone need a Bushmaster or another high power rifle like that? The only reason I can even think of is a person that is a collector, because you can't hunt with them. A collector should have to be licensed and they should have to keep all of their ammunition and guns in different safes with different combinations. My grandfather is a gun collector and has an extensive collection of firearms. Him and my grandmother decided to keep some fairly mentally disturbed foster children for a charity and that was their requirement of him. All of his firearms and ammo had to be separate.

How would these regulations be enforced?

To make guns a bit more reasonable without limiting availablilty too much would be a licensing system similar to a drivers license. Take a test, then show how well you do with the class of weapon in terms of safely maintaining and firing, and see if you pass.

Gun shows should also be better regulated.

The same way all other regulations are enforced. It isn't that difficult to prevent gun stores, pawn shops, and sporting good stores from selling high power firearms. There has already been a ban once, but it was let run out in the early 2000's. It won't be that hard to get another one because a number of states already have taken it upon themselves to enact assault rifle bans. I agree with mage on the gunshow loopholes too. They should be eliminated.

if you are going killing, just to kill, like the oregon mall shooting, i live in a small town, i know i could go door to door, like religious people, when they invite me in their house, kill them, and on to the next house, i could kill 100+ people by the time the police found out, and when they do, im already in the next town.

great idea, the 2nd amendment was to protect ourselfs from law enforcement, all this does is give law enforcement an upper hand when they decide to strip us of our rights. and lets not forget, how many murderers do you know of that would wilfully give up that .223 ar-15?
