Time Machine. Will it ever come?

Of course it will be invented, maybe not in this millenia(?).

Think about it... do you think people in the 1500's thought "a magical box where people can come together and talk, play games, write letters" (of course im talking about the computer) or even a magical box where pictures appear (tv).

It will happen in my mind... think about the speed of light... if we could go that fast... woudnt that be a form of time travel (based on the theory of relativity) we could travel at the speed of light for one year, then come back to the earth... and maybe be 500 years in the future..

Maybe we wont go BACK in time... but maybe we can manage to go to the future by travelling at very high speeds?

Agreed. But it will probably be kept on the dl.

I think they are just way to many variable involved. There is no way anyone could give you a concrete answer.

agreed somewhat.
It's probably possible but even if it was invented it would never be released to the public.
It's a useless thing tbh, If it was invented all they'd do is fuck up the world more and noone would use it ever, only once to test it but other then that they'd never try it, it'd be useless.

well, it will happen inventually, I think so... dont u think in 1000 years human kind would atleast be able to travel that fast?

Disagreed. If anything OTHER than LIGHT could travel as fast as or faster than LIGHT, I suspect astrophysicists would have caught on by now.

It is impossible for us to travel that fast. To put it simply, no mass can travel as fast as light.

It is believed that the men who went to the moon aged by about two more seconds than a normal human being on Earth, if you would count that as time travel. However, such a small unit is pointless, and it only aged those who were in space, not the other way around.

I doupt it, but I hope it'll come

Does anyone know if there are scientists working on a time machine? Couldn't find anything on Google, but I don't think there are any.

The only way to travel by time forward is only to catch a wormhole as far as i know, and you can't travel to the past, since there isn't any time machine invented so far,so it would be a paradox because time machine weren't invented yet, otherwise, you would see time travelers from the future visiting us and such.

Yea, but it's like.. You just can't.. My fantasy doesn't go that far.
You know, the future hasn't happened yet, so.. It would be impossible.

maybe, maybe not you wont ever know because no one would be stupid enough to make it and tell everyone.

Time has no continuity. There is actually a VERY small amount of time between every action that takes place. This is called "Planck's Time". Extremely small number.

I remember reading an experiment a while ago when some clocks were taken around the world in a fast aircraft. The results were interesting, but I can't remember them. Perhaps that would contribute to this thread if I can find it.

Just some interesting info on Planck Time:
Planck Time: Dimension: Time (T)

Equivalent with uncertainties: 5.391 24(27) × 10^−44 s

To sum it up basically if you can go around the world faster then it spins. Your going back in time.. That would feel so fucked up =s

As far as we know, the past has happened. The future hasn't, since it is the future. You can't be in a place that never happened. I can't go to the city of Emaldja if the city of Emaldja has never existed.

Even so, to quote the article:
"It sounds crazy, but this can actually occur," said Raymond Chiao, a physicist at the University of California at Berkeley. Chiao, one of a group of researchers who have been working to break the speed-of-light limit, explained that although a common object such as a baseball could never be flung faster than the speed of light, pulses of energy with certain complex properties have been known to bend the rules.

Even according to this, for us to travel that fast is impossible, which is my main point.

Also:
William Happer, a physicist at Princeton University argued that several specific problems exist with the experiment, including the fact that pulses get distorted when passed through any media other than a vacuum, or empty space. In addition, he said Wang and his colleagues performed the experiment in a way that doesnt tell the whole story, and that it can be interpreted incorrectly. "This is anything but dramatic," said Happer. "If you look at the data, theres essentially no evidence that [the beam] is going faster than the speed of light."

There is such thing as a time machine, each day i am one more day into the future, its crazy. I seem to be getting older every second too.

AKA If time machines existed, someone from the future would have come to the past already.

I do believe that Jethr0x has a very interesting argument though. Each year we build things that go faster and faster, why should the speed of light be the limit? I know that we will never be able to travel faster than the speed of light in any of our life times but who knows, maybe in thousands of years to come we will be able to.

This is a great question.. however the answer is no.. the time stream continuim is never done.. so technically.. right now... people in the past have already lived yes... but are still living in a certain way.. and people in the future are already living.. but they already know what we have done in the present.... however no one would need to disrupt the time stream or bad things could happen... so two possible things... no no one has invented it or.. yes someone has invented it used it and know the future is dark and grim.. and the time stream has been disrupted... and life as we will never know b/c it is the future is in disarray
