The probable candidates get smaller with each promotion.. Not unexpected when this place is essentially a ghost town.

 

Reminds me of a dying private server I was on. Owner started promoting randoms because why not.

 

lol no, they haven't done shit. They are nobodies who snaked their way up the ladder of this site. You and the current upper staff are letting this get out of hand, just continuing to shrivel up and die.

 

Being left behind isn't so bad. I'm not missing anything anyways. Everyone just complains about staff positions nowadays.

Are you mentally deficient? You're missing out on all this website has to offer obviously. Have you taken a look at the CDT events or the PR events? How about the technical core servers?

You better start to recognize all the new people on here who are making a name for themselves on the most popular Runescape black market forum around or you're going to get left behind buddy. Sorry to say, but you're a nothing on Sythe.org.

 

Take a look at this thread: Promotions!

Then compare it to the amount of dissatisfaction in the newest promotion thread. You'll see a significant difference. In fact, I can barely find any dissatisfaction in the earlier thread because those people were liked by all of the community and were known by all of the community.

It's ok to admit you're wrong sometimes.

It's a lot worse now. Introducing mod apps encourages this.

 

The thread I linked was done by moderator applications, but it had a difference in reaction compared to these promotions. I guess this time a lot of the community wasn't happy with the selection including some staff and other prominent members such as ex-staff that made their opinions clear in the comments.

In my opinion, you shouldn't even have applications, the greatest staff on this website were just chosen when they were noticed by upper staff. You create animosity when you have applications because some people feel that others don't deserve it and vice versa especially when you choose people that others barely know in the community. Something went wrong between the August promotions and now because in my honest opinion, the August promotions were great and you see can the satisfaction in the thread. Looking at the most recent promotion thread, all I can see is salt and dissatisfaction. What went wrong between these 3 months?

Maybe it's hard for some people to be governed by people they don't know or respect?

Animosity within an already dying community (even though a flourishing market) isn't very healthy for the sustenance of the website.

 

I agree with this statement. However, don't you think they have a right to be a bit mad? You have someone who got pardoned for scamming three months ago who was MIA for a long time get moderator. You also have a couple others who a lot of people have never even heard of including me who logs on at least once a day to this website. The only moderator I've actually seen and known is Killswitch. Keep in mind that before the most recent promotions, I've known every single person who's been promoted and seen them a lot around the community excluding DarkSpark who was demoted promptly so I wasn't surprised when somebody got promoted and it was inevitable.

The people who have seniority and have committed years to the website feel ripped off and robbed of a position they feel they should have because they've been loyal members even when times are rough in the community. That's what creates the animosity.

In turn, these older members don't feel appreciated or motivated to continue in the community and end up leaving. It's an innate consequence that comes with the territory. In the end, I guess it's a question in whether you care about these older community members or not.
