Hi all,

With great pleasure I am here to announce the new Sythe Official Lottery, endorsed by our administrator n4n0. A great deal of time and energy has been placed into planning this nonprofit project, and I certainly hope that everyone enjoys our weekly event . Specifics of the lottery will be listed below; please read them before posting or contacting anyone. If you can provide any feedback concerning the Lottery, feel free to private message me. Lottery Quick-Information:

• Biweekly
• Completely nonprofit
• This thread will be updated biweekly
• Tickets cost 200K Oldschool RuneScape GP each
• Current collectors are: n4n0, Superman, [URL="http://www.sythe.org/members/291848-roary.html]Roary[/URL] (PM us to buy tickets!)

How it works:
Participants will select one number between 1 and 100 per ticket, with a maximum of two tickets permitted per person. The day the lottery ends, I will draw a number between 1 and 100 from a public random number generator. If the number matches a ticket that has been bought, the owner of the ticket will be awarded the entire pot! If the number doesn't match, a new number will be drawn.

A couple of questions.
1. Tickets will be drawn 1 week from now?
2. If a number has not been taken but that is the winning number, is another number drawn instead afterwards or does that go to waste?

 

1. numbers are drawn every friday i believe

2. i believe only the sold tickets go into the draw.

 

Assuming the number is randomly generated and as such each number is just as likely to be drawn as the next, then the person who buys the last ticket and takes this into account has the highest chance of winning.

The only fair way to do this is to only enter the numbers people actually buy into the random number generator. Apart from that, it's up to users to trust you with the validity of the results.

Numbers will be drawn until a number matches an already-owned ticket.

 

Would it not just be easier to do a draw containing the numbers purchased; would be much faster, and easier imo?

I don't believe there'll be much trouble with the method I mentioned, however I'd be interested if there were a reputable, free website/program to operate the way you mentioned. Thanks for your interest.
