Teaching Religion To Children

No way...I don´ t believe in any anyway.

 

So you guys are going to force people to not teach their children what they want? I can teach my child whatever I want, whether it be Christianity or Satanism.

 

When do you lose that right?

 

I thought you were arguing in favor of enforcing such a law.? Or were you just saying what people should do, not what they have to do?

 

I believe if children were not allowed to be exposed to religion before they reach a sense of maturity where they think rationally, if they decided to accept the religion it would be based more off of facts/theories not because of fear. Most kids who get saved are for one of two reasons
1. Scared
2. Peer-pressure
3. There is a little precent of children who do it for neither of those reasons.

 

My parents didn't force me to go to church, my mom is catholic, my dad is a baptist (barely). So I went to a catholic church while growing up, but around 8 I didn't want to go anymore, simply because I was definitely not interested in someone that came around 2000 years ago, and how he did the physically impossible...literally...physically....impossible... I wasn't stupid at that age and I knew reason, so i asked to stop going to church because I didn't believe in any of it. So yeah, if your religious, take your kids to church...it teaches them moral values and whatnot.

It is already illegal to discuss religious matters in Florida schools. It probably should everywhere else too.

If you want your kid to be a religious freak, teach it in your home or send them to a christian/catholic/baptist school. We don't need you tainting our children s' minds via your children that you managed to coax into believing that there was a brown haired hippie who came to earth and made alcohol from water.

 

I'm just asking questions. You say that you have the right to teach your children whatever you wish - when do you lose that right?

 

Yeah, like I said in my previous post...I was raised as a Catholic, and I definitely did not turn out to be a religious freak, my entire family on my moms side is Catholic, and they are without a doubt not religious freaks. On my dads side they are all Baptists and they also are definitely not religious freaks.

BUT, I do think that more hardcore religious people follow the Evangelical/Pentecostal branch of Christianity.


Also, there was no way that the Catholic church tried to brainwash me.

 

well im turning 15 years old tomorrow and here in Quebec we have this new program and i have catholic classes...I dont beleive in god so i will obivously skip all those class. But yeah i find it Stupid.

 

It's wrong, unless it's your own children.

They teach BCE (Before common Era) Instead of BC (Before Christ) IN grade school nowadays, illustrating the education sysytem agrees it isnt fair/right to teach younth religion in the form of educating their minds.

 

Thats in public schools, where there is a large pool of different cultures and religions though, how would you feel if your kid was being brought up Jewish and he was being taught Christianity in school. But in private schools they have not restraints on whether they teach religion or not.

Also, I my personal opinion I think that religion is only I'm place to teach a society moral boundaries, so they don't just get tired of life and kill 50 people and then themselves, but some religions do push the envelope of recruitment to their religious communities and making sure their kids area part of it to.

 

hell ya its ok to teach them about it. the thing is if they want to be taught about that religion or if they want to practice a different religion. its retarded when u say brain wash because its not like the teacher keeps chanting "be atheist" or "be jewish" they just inform them about different religions

 

Remember how easy it was for your parents to make you believe in santa? its the same with god. You will believe anything you are told as a kid, therefor it is brain washing, they didnt get a chioce to believe, they where told to believe it as a kid, and they never let go of that.

Remember when your parents finally told you santa wasnt real? you felt like a down right idiot for believing in it. If your parents came up to you and said "god isnt real, its just a fairy tale to keep kids from being naughty", you would get that exact same feeling of, man im a dumb arse. but because that never happens, they go on forever believing because they where told it was true as a kid.

For any religion to be tought in schools, they would have to teach ALL relgions so they dont get a biased view. Why dont we do it? because then we would realise how stupid it all is. If you believe in 1 relgion, you reject 99999 relgions, whats the difference if you just reject 1 more?

 

Religion is bad for children, I think. They are indoctrinated when their critical mind is still developing. If Santa Claus wasn't commonly dismissed, I can guarantee that most of the children brought up believing in him would think him to be real, too.

I say don't bring children up in to a religion. Allow them to grow and make the choice for themselves, when they have the mental capacity to do so - Not because their parents want them to be something other than what could happen.

 

Yh, it´ s used especially by the governments to control their people.
A good way is religion. Christians as Muslims can be controlled very well by religion, and not just these two religions. Mainly all.

 

Ok, I don't follow you at all on this one...please explain, what government is controlling a religion, which in turn is controlling their people? Why in just Muslims and Christians?

well I'm sure that it is easier to teach anything i.e. religion to people at a young age because children 'learn and listen' as they grow so in basic anything they see/hear or be told is wrong/right is what they see as the correct source of information, all people have the right to be taught religion but why must it start at such a low age I'm sure that it should be the parents right if the kid is unable to decide for himself. also how young are we talking about hear? and why do kids need to know about evolution, death, war, beliefs, god himself, afterlife, souls and all other things that make religion of course their is many more but I am positive that Children do not need to know any of this. and if you choose to teach a child religion who is to tell them which is right rich is wrong and how they should have to live their whole life/sacrifices they should make because of their 'god'

you can teach your children what ever you want?, do you even have children and since when can you teach a child what ever they want?

I am going to agree with you 100% because this is what makes sense to me.

 

No, I don't have a child, but I think you're completely missing the point... But come on, do you seriously have the right to control what morals, values, or religions I teach my child? No. I can teach them whatever I want. I don't know how the laws work but I would assume it's illegal (and if not, definitely immoral) to teach my son to be a suicide bomber, slave, or anything else like that. But in public schools, of course religion shouldn't be taught... Maybe a brief summary of the most popular religions and what exactly they are, but not actual teaching of Theology. But it's definitely ok in private schools, I GO to a Catholic school so I can have a good environment and so I can learn more about my religion and how to become a better person.

 

I agree, my original post wasn't well thought out. Children should be exposed to all types of beliefs or lack thereof, but at an age when they are capable of reason. That is the most important point, that we shouldn't be teaching kids things that require reasoning when they are incapable of real reason.

I agree that should be banned for sure. It doesn't make sense to teach, for instance, that God created the universe first period and that the big bang created it second period. Contradiction in what is being taught can only lead to confusion.

Most people who think about religion critically will realize how ludicrous it is.
