Is There a 'Correct' Path to Religion?

I'm sorry but that is not what it is saying at all. Versus 18 and 19 are stating that if anyone tries to tamper with the book of Revelations by adding things that were not said or taking away things that were said plagues will be brought upon him and he will lose his inheritance to heave. It doesn't say anything about anything about having to describe every detail of heaven every time you say it. You completely misinterpreted the versus.

All this is stating basically is that if you alter the book of revelations by adding texts to it or taking away from the words that God had written in there that there will be consequences.

Also note that this is a NAB which is a catholic translation of the Bible. You said NIV before. I am a non denominational Christian and I have never heard of that version before. I use NIV, ESV, and King james. There isn't much difference but we do not use that version.

Omnibenevolent = all-loving. What is God if not all-loving?

Stated above in my post. There is no where in the Bible that it uses the word omnibenevolent. You can find it on wikipedia and it is a tiny section. It does in the Bible describe the attributes of God. That he is truth, love, peace, patient, kind, so on, but I cannot find anywhere that it says he is omnibenevolent or all loving (all loving in my definition here means incapable of hating). Which is obviously not true since he hates sin...

It means in the same sense as the omnipotent argument did. God is all loving in the sense that he loves more deeply and truly then anything else in creation. Sort of like my friends argument for God being omnipotent. It is all in the definition of the word.

These are not my words... (These are words to argue you. I would say that we not only choose to go to Hell, but that God hates sin and that is why we must go to hell if we do not accept his sons Jesus Christ's sacrifice for our sins.)

and in answer to you question what is god if not all loving. Idk it depends on what your definition of all loving is.

The creator of the universe hates sin - I see. I didn't realize such little things preoccupied his mind.

Very well - God loves us.

If you agree that God is all-powerful/all-knowing, then the free will argument is invalid. If God created the entire universe, with all of its particles, then he knew the present and future positions of all particles within it. He created us knowing exactly what our future actions would be - in fact, he created us with the intent of achieving these future actions. God created the murderer, knowing that he would murder. He designed every aspect of his mind, specially designing it for killing. God created slave-machines: God bears the blame.

k, sorry i used a different version, however i couldn't find the version I had originally seen, which has a different translation of the verse, however it's begs another point (fine, I'll leave the other one behind), the bible has been translated too many times to get a proper translation (for that matter, the same translation) between every single person that has read the "good book" Different translations of the bible, and different interpretations in one's mind can make some defining points inside said book contradictory and ill-defined.

no there's not a correct path, you follow your heart with ur beliefs, and go that way and practice those things...
you dont have to follow a certain type of religion or faith just because that's the way ur family has done it.

Honestly, just give up - you're digging yourself deeper and deeper into a hole.

    1) You can't prove that God even exists. Have you read the Vedas/Upanishads? How come you don't practice Hinduism, but preach the Bible? How come your faith is superior?

    2) Plenty of people have made sacrifices for the greater good, but I don't see many people devoting their lives to them [MLK knew he was going to die if he kept doing what he was doing...]

    3) Lulz, you've already been proven wrong in the omnibenevolence issue. Just throw in the towel, and try to dig something else out of your ass.

Shedder you are using a standard to make a moral judgment. Where did you receive that standard from? You will most likely say it is human nature. That we developed it on our way through evolution, but that can't be. (I have a lot to argue this with but don't want to take up 50 pages in argument.)

The only way to know what evil even is to know what good is. You have to know both to know either.

Look at it this way. There was a debate between a Christian, Frederick Copplestone and an agnostic Bertrand Russell and Copplestone asked Bertrand Russell you believe in good and evil, right and wrong don’t you? Of course. How do you tell the difference. Same way I tell the difference between blue and green. Ahhh, but those are colors and you can tell the difference based on seeing them but how do you differentiate between good and evil; right and wrong? Shrugged his shoulders - - On the basis of feeling what else? FEELING! There are serial killers out there who felt like killing, this was right for them. Some feel lying is acceptable. Others feel anything is ok as long as nobody gets hurt. Talk about a rudderless ship. Where is the anchor? Where is the foundation? How does one condemn Hitler?

If there is no moral law giver, there is no moral law, if there is no moral law, there is no way to differentiate between good and evil but yet there is good and evil. All around us. What gives? You need God in the equation!

I have a lot to say on this. (Well I do but it is not my original thoughts meaning I didn't think them up myself. Like all your thoughts are.)

    and

I resent that. I have not at all been proven wrong on omnibenevolence... Please show me how I have, and I have a lot more to come bro I won't be done for A LONG time.

    1. Even David Hume, one of the world’s most famous skeptics, said it’s just barely possible that God exists. They cannot prove this and to say “not possible” means you can prove that. This is why there are not very many atheists anymore. They’ve become agnostics because they kept getting killed in the debates. Atheist means “no God” and the theistic opponent would simply demand proof that there is no God. Of course, a universal negative cannot be proven. The atheist could not and cannot turn the question on the Christian because while Atheist means no God Christian does not mean God. We do not assert that we can “prove” God’s existence we simply believe the evidence for the existence of God overwhelms the evidence for the non-existence of God

    2.
    A. God is all–powerful and all-good
    B. But – evil exists so God must be either not all powerful or he would destroy evil
    C. Or God must not be all-good or evil would not exist.
    D. Harold Kushner wrongly asserted in his book Why do bad things happen to good people? He looked at that question and said God exists and he is good but he must not be all powerful. He wants to destroy evil but cannot. He wants to prevent bad things from happening to good people but just can’t
    E. What does the Christian say to this?
    1. God is all-powerful
    2. God is all good
    3. Evil does exist which means
    4. God will one day destroy it!

    3. Where is YOUR factual scientific evidence that God does not exist.

    4. What is YOUR answer for why there is evil in the world?

Shedder I would really like to talk to you on this more. My friend has many good points (which these are all points I stole from him =/ I'm not studied enough and I am currently working on it). I would love to discuss this more with you one on one because some people here just spam items I have already discussed and really this is all aimed to you. I would really love to talk to you more about this. You know my msn and I'm going to pm you on here and ask you for yours or for you to add me so we can talk some more and discuss.

I wish this work I have posted was mine but it is the work of my friend and I take no recognition for it. (I'm not this smart or studied and as I said before I am working on it.)

The last page and a half should address this.

You still haven't explained to me why you feel your Christian faith is superior.

Explain the relevance of this, please?

As Shredder has said, proof is burden of the believer.
Becuase there are evil people, that have been influenced by other evil things that happen in the world. Or, as you would like to think, because God hasn't stopped them yet.

Oh, so I'm spamming. I see. This is kinda stupid, to be honest. I'm not allowed to express my beliefs, and debate them with you?

Is There a 'Correct' Path to Religion?

Some interesting/intellectual debates, who would've guessed?

Anywho, I've got 2 questions for you people:

    1) Is there a proper term for someone who believes in the concept of God; they don't believe that God, him/her/itself, is defined to ONE physical/spiritual form.

    2) What's the proper term for someone who believes in God, but believes God doesn't give a shit about civilisation/humanity?

I'd say there is a correct path, but it is impossible for anyone to find out this path (hundreds of religions, nobody knows for certain if God exists or if their religion is correct, essentially a long trial and error method of finding out if the life they lived and beliefs they follower were correct, assuming death reveals this truth) or be able to tell others what it is (considering death reveals the correct path).

I'm disappointed about how people represent religion. I'm a Christian and am embarrassed of people thinking that Christianity is the only religion and acting accordingly. Violence, force, degrading others' beliefs, and so on are weak, unnecessary, and dehumanizing. Although Christianity is not the only religion to do this, it is to my dismay that Christians do it the most. One of the paradigms of Christianity is to spread the word of God. Granted, but that doesn't mean that you fight, fuss, kill, argue, force, others' into God because that will only lead to the status quo, everyone regarding the Christians as devils and pompous missionaries. I don't know if Christianity is true, or if any other religions beliefs are true, but it's my trial and hopefully will not result in error. This logic is employed in all beliefs, so you can't say that one religion or belief system is better than others or "more true" than others. Just some thoughts.

Sorry about that. I didn't mean it the way it came out. I was just aiming most of my argument toward shredder. I didn't mean for it to seem like what you were saying didn't matter or that I wasn't reading it or paying attention to it. I'll give you some answers once I get back from church.

I believe a path called Atheism. As an Atheist I believe in no god, no savior, no lord.

Heres my theory: If there is such a "God" then why hasn't he helped us in our economical decline and depression? Why didn't he cure AIDS or help somebody find a cure for AIDS? Some people say that he is punishing us for our sins. Well if this is true then we should all be able to pray once for forgiveness and this will all go away. If that's true, then why hasn't anybody arranged a group praying or ceremony?

Atheist Pro's: You will not be sent to Hell if you are "bad." You will no matter what be ressurected into something new, such as a tree, bird, lion, tiger, etc. You could be a plant to an animal to a rock. It'd be fun to be able to fly right?

Atheist Con's: If there truely is a "God" then we will be sent to Hell for sure if not begging for forgiveness in front of the eyes of this "God." Also, you could become something boring like a rock, but once you are chipped or eroded you will become something else.

Maybe, this is the right path. I can't point you or anyone else in the right direction?

The problem of evil does not refute the existence of God.

Self-pronounced atheists generally do not believe in reincarnation. Why do you?

Rocks are not conscious/living. You are not going to reincarnate as one.

A polytheist? I'm not really sure what you mean. Polytheistic religions, such as Hinduism and Roman Paganism, believe that many different Gods control their own individual elements of nature, and when they are all in harmony, stuff is good. There are Gods of natures, animals, rocks, etc. in many polytheistic religions.

Not sure exactly what you mean. What does the God care about, then?

So the world would be a lot better off if everyone did something first and then apologized for it?

God wiped the entire species off the earth and then apologised for it...
