Take action against SOPA

Looks like the white house has issued a statement against it

 

Wikipedia and several other websites are initiating a blackout on Wednesday as a protest against SOPA and PIPA.

I wonder if Google will participate in the plan that wikipedia is involved with. That is: shut down their service for a period of time to demonstrate the negative impact of SOPA

It's so important that we still have the ability to harness the full use of the internet. It's our most valuable and important means of communication. Do something guys!

 

SOPA only applies to US residents? NZ already has an anti-piracy on the internet law.

 

I hate these anti piracy groups and shit.
There's one in our country, which recieves subsidy from the government, but the government itself is against anti-piracy, due to believing it will compromise free speech..

They just sue small websites that link to downloads, torrent sites etc. These small sites can't even afford an attorney, so they have to give in and close their site cause without an attorney they won't do anything in court..

Recently, the 2 biggest ISPS here were forced to block for example ThePirateBay.
The anti piracy group sued the ISPS, and that was the court order..
They're now appealing to a higher court.

 

I can just imagine the chaos if google shutdown its servers for even a day.

 

Wiki isn't a company focused on making profit I think, it's a foundation?

Google ofcourse is, they can't just shut down for a day. It would cost them a shitload of money.
