SytheChat Look

I'd likely use it more if it was presented like the OP recommended. It resembles Facebook messenger which I'm sure everyone has seen before.

If it was only text and not images it would be much less expensive to do though right? It shouldn't be hard to hook it up to an external image host such as Imgur. That way you'd only need to store the url rather than the image itself.

From my experience with servers, I don't think that it would create a strain on the resources, albeit, I don't know what kind of servers Sythe is working with right now.

 

Xenforo is coming along nicely so hopefully all these things will become easier with a more modern software.

The only one concern I think Sythe had was the server stress of opening chats on every tab for every user.

Completely support. I feel the way it isn't exactly 'welcoming' or 'easy to use' is why Sythe chat is rarely used as it is.

If we can make SytheChat really nice, and full working we may some-day be able to get away from Skype, reducing hacks etc.

 

Sythe should stop complaining about server stress and buy better servers. It doesn't take a high end server to run VB (not sure about Xenforo) and if it was minimizable (completely not just individual chats) with still a notification system it wouldn't use /too/ much server resources.

 

I support this, if used correctly I feel like we could use sythechat instead of skype or any other ways of contact. It would eliminate imposters for sure.

 

I support a sythe IM function. that would be a great addition imo.

 

Make it a donor perk, and put the proceeds towards a sturdier server

I don't know much how it works, but you could also outsource the stress to an second server, that was if it becomes too much and crashes from overuse, the main website will remain unaffected.

 

Very similar to Cometchat, which is something Sythe looked at in the past.
I'm sure he'll take a fresh look into account when he starts working on it again.
