As far as they know this place hasn't existed for years.

Moron, Google doesn't work like all the other search engines, they developed their own algorithm for how sites are found/listed/index. Yes. SEO is important, however, it doesn't always work for Google, in fact, keywords have taken a turn for the less important SINCE adsense has become so prominent.

To be perfectly clear, Adsense has NOTHING to do with the Google ranking system. I don't know where you're getting this information. AdSense is a a completely different program for PPC advertisements that is also based on KEYWORDS. If you would like a link to the Google page that would explain it for you, I'll be happy to oblige.

I work for a company that does search engine optimization as one of its primary functions.

SEO does work on google.

We have plenty (see: hundreds) of first page results using organic search engine optimization. Not pay per click or adsense.

Thanks, Jansen. I'm a (freelance) web designer/SEO as well.

PPC and organic search results have absolutely nothing to do with each other. If they did, it would kill the competition by allowing unrelated companies to simply "buy" their sites the top spaces on Google or other search engines.
