I'm all for this but I must admit I'm quite disappointed we won't be able to buy donor perks. When Sythe Gold was first released and Sythe hinted that were going to be able to buy perks with it, I (wrongfully) assumed this would include donor perks. Many may disagree but I really wish this decision for donor perks to be off-limits would be reconsidered. I completely agree donors should be given perks for their contributions, but there are ways to contribute to the site that aren't monetary. Such as simply just being a reputable member of the forum who seeks out to help other users, runs a legitimate business fostering positive user to user interactions, etc. Donating money should just be the "easy" way to acquire these perks, but they shouldn't be limited to just monetary contributions. I, for example, would love to have a custom UI. But I don't have $200 to donate to the site, unfortunately. I would work hard to earn a hefty amount of Sythe Gold in order to acquire a custom UI, even if for a predetermined amount of time such as 10,000 gold to unlock the ability to use a custom UI for one year or something. Just my two cents.

 

If the gold becomes tradeable then Sythe will become a source of value. Is this a good idea?

 

Can someone explain the bump bypass? so forever someone can bump over and over again? or does it mean shorter bump frame? or you pay once to bypass a bump timer?

 

When I spoke to Matthew he seemed to have explained it as you pay a one time payment per early bump. Let's say an early bump is 500 points, you can use that 500 gold to bump right away regardless of the time of your last bump

 

Donor perks are and should be reserved for donors only. By having the option to obtain donor perks without donating, it undermines the incentive to donate, thereby decreasing potential monetary grants. It's not a wise business move.

@Matthew What is the algorithm with obtaining sythe gold by posting? Will posting in a specific area give more sythe gold than other areas? And are you able to configure it this way if possible?

 

Somewhat agree, I've always noted that my contributions to the community may not come in the form of/via monetary funds but via community interactions etc. People should be able to get a somewhat similar type of perk as donor's. It doesn't seem like it would happen unfortunately.

 

As much as I appreciate the work put into this in an effort to better the site, I don't think this is being handled correctly atm in the slightest.

Looking at that I'm guessing it was done as an extra incentive for activity. The referrals, donations and mini-ranks part of that look fine, the rest have some flaws given that SG will have monetary value.

Posting - If it's a valid way of farming SG then a sizeable portion the people who are interested in gaining SG would end up shitposting for it.

Receiving likes - Again, shitpost some memes or be friends with Wortel and you'll gain a ton of SG. Not an issue with the likes system but the fact you're trying to tie SG to it.

Why not have it as a reward from events? Run MotM again and reward the winner with SG. It's SG so you're able to create value out of nothing and give it away to encourage proper activity.

For the most part it's fine until it starts influencing the market like the bump timer bypass. Any benefit in the market is completely fucked because it rewards large traders and not smaller ones. It benefits those with a larger ability to invest rather than the smaller ones who are just starting off.

If we're looking for a fair market having people like R2P, Bogla, Divica, Arcus etc who can afford to constantly bypass the bump timer as soon as they're on the second page is going to kill any chance of smaller traders getting exposure. Even if SG can be bought by anyone, only the large traders can do so consistently and generate a still profit.

Awarding SG retroactively just makes the issue even bigger since large traders will already have a lot of SG to use up.

tl;dr - Keep all benefits out of the market. Remove the sources of SG by shitposting. Use SG to encourage good posts through awards like MotM.

Earning sythe gold for the amount of time actually active would be a cool update.

Some people probably just like looking at all threads and reading whats going on, would be fair for them to be able to earn some gold as well
