Suggestion: User "Usefullness Rank" to reduce spamming

In many forums, the almighty "Post Count" has been replaced with something called a "Usefullness Rating", or something to that degree.

Instead of gaining reputation for the post count alone, users recieve reputation based on how useful their posts have been to other members of the community. This cuts down on spam posts, because members no longer have any incentive to post them.

While I don't believe removing PC completely will be widely appreciated, maybe th addition of some kind of "Usefullness Rating" will encourage people to post informative and helpful posts instead of spamming as many threads as possible to raise their PC.

    Discuss :D

Didn't we try something similar with the Reputation system? I recall it failing.

Spamming is an issue we'll always have to deal with... as long as we have post counts, at least. Whether someone is "useful" or not, they want a higher post count and will probably still spam to get it.

Thanks for the suggestion Marchant, however, I'm not sure if this is something that'll work well on Sythe.org.

All people want to have a feel of recognition. Mods and people on sythe that have a rank already have recognition. So they would have no use for a system that would give anyone else recognition it would only make things more complicated on sythe in their view.

I think this suggestion thread is pretty useless nothing major will be changed.

how about a vouching system that goes near your post count or somthing where only certain types of members can vouch for you and the higher your vouch rank is the more trusted you become or somthing like that. for example; you make an successful trade with an mm or high trusted member at the end of the trade they send you 1 vouch point. now obvious things like spamming cannot happen and maybe the person that vouched you can only send a certain ammount of vouch points per day or some sort of thing like that

^^ It's something like you're saying that I was envisioning. Rep from more respected members means more, just like our vouch system now.

The only problem is that it would further complicate the coding end of it, and i'm not sure if it would be worth th hassle.

Hmm, something to this level might be a hassle to put into the coding and it would be almost exactly like our vouching system now, so as I see it their would be no point to it. As said above this would also be abused, most likely
making spammers or scammers a higher rank therefore, lettign them scam or spam more easily. although the idea of it is nice, i dont think it would do sythe very good.

To everyone who says post count means nothing here is a little post explaining why its vital and what it represents.

When someone has 1,000 posts it showed they have posted 1,000 things and are not banned. showing they can follow basic forum rules. Its just gives you an idea of how trustworthy and rule obiing they are.

I agree that post count shouldn't be counted as trust.. or penis size for that matter but its still vital to running a forum.

Another reason behind why it should stay is that it endorses competition to get higher post count between some users. Bringing activity to the Forum.

In the end, a suggestion like this would work, but it shouldn't replace post count.

It should be made you need a certain amount of rep to rep people, like on moparisthebest.com so people dont just make multiple account, ofcourse mods and above would already have this rep count, so in the begining only they can rep people.

Thats a semi good idea. At least at first only mods could rep so it would not explode too quickly.

    NO LOL.

But maye like instead, a vouch page on profile page, where people can go and post there vouches, then you can view them all by name, and click on it to see the vouch + other details.

The issue with any of these systems is they will be abused... I've installed a mod to keep people from double posting but we'll never be able to stop spam... This is why we have mods.
