I have a question for you... Do you all believe that although you may not be able to write it down your body knows things such as basic physics and chemistry etc... I mean think about it a friend throws you a ball and you can tell where it is going to fall... for slow throws most people can glance at the ball look away and still catch it.

Now technically i believe this is being able to gauge what effect the gravity and velocity have on the ball to enable us to place our hand in the correct place to catch it...

This happens on many different levels and i was wondering if any of you had thoughts on it ?

I understand what you mean, but when a person looks at the ball they usually don't think about velocity ad stuff. They just try to anticipate where the ball is going to fall. They do read how far it is going though. Althought the body does act on its own impulses alot of times, which might be able support this.

Hmm, I guess you could say that, but as you said, it's just very basic, if not common sense.

You learn such things from experience.
More like "second nature" instead of "subconscious".

Exactly. If you throw a ball at an infant or a little kid, are they going to move out of its way, or put their hands out to catch it? Most likely not, because they have never experienced the event before. But once they get it thrown at them enough, they can then assume that the ball if thrown at them, will indeed hit them, or go to a certain place. Causing them to react by moving out of the way, or putting their hands/feet out to block/catch the object.

I do not believe we understand in on a subconscious level, rather we learn it when we are so young it could be taken as that. Like second nature, like Cruel said.

I think it's more of experience then it is of subconscious thinking. We have caught a ball so many times and experienced different situations, that we on occasion can predict what will happen. Like if the wind is blowing to the left, and someone kicks the ball straight, we can predict the ball will not go completely straight, however we don't know exactly how much the ball will stray from its path.

That is exactly why it is subconcious... Your body doesnt know its doing it... Your body doesn't use words... It makes instantaneous calculations to figure things out...

Of course we have subconscious knowledge. Look at sleepwalking for example. However the subconscious and conscious mental capabilities differ greatly.
