Starting a business

Hey I've been interested in starting my own restaurant since I was in elementary, I recently decided to start the planning process and get the ball rolling for the most part. So I've been pricing together a lot of my ideas and will eventually go through them and make a halfway decent business plan / menu / etc. I have had experience in past classes that I took in high school creating for the most part a business and displaying the expenses for rent staff etc. I have much more in mind than just a simple restaurant and would incorporate everything I have picked up from previous jobs and bring in my current coworkers (who beleive my plan has potential). Just wondering if anyone has done this or known anyone that has started their own business because I plan to get loans and I have distant family that might be interested in investing because they own a popcorn factory. Any ideas / financial help is apreciated. Also I am currently in my second year of school for I.T. I will continue past that to get a business degree hopefully that would help with the restaurant.

 

Why the restaurant field?

Its one of the hardest to make profits in, your bottom line will only be like 5-6% and a bit higher if you franchisee an existing chain (mcdonalds, swiss chalet your looking at 10-15%)
