SRR - Offsite Offenses(Recreated)

Okay, this is the recreated thread for http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1496018 with the top 3 voted on answers. The last one was dead for 3 days with a tie between removing and retaining the rule, with a statute of limits not too far behind.

Please vote and leave any relevant comments, and we will go from there.

 

I voted for the 1 year stature of limitations. This keeps people away from Sythe immediately after committing malicious acts. This also allows for them to have changed over the course of a year however.

 

Could you post whether the past offences include scamming.

Obviously it would include scamming.

 

Offsite scammers are likely to recommit the act on Sythe. It's better to just leave the rule and play hardball when it comes to how we treat such people. Don't scam and you won't be excluded from Sythe. Simple as that, we don't need such low calibre people looking at Sythe as their next opportunity to scam/recommit any offences.

 

Remove it for all offenses prior to joining. For offences that occur after joining, only scamming is bannable. That's what I want.

 

I agree with SuF but voted for the one year period.
I think anything even on another site after they join should be bannable if it is deserving of the ban.

 

If scamming is included I'm leaving my vote as leave it as it is. I would be fine with DDoS and some black hat activity, if we let scammers here from other sites we might as well let scammers on site return after a year as well.

 

I voted for 2 years in the last thread minus black hat. But since a year is the longest period here, then I'll have to go for that. I think it's a blatant excuse to become malicious when they come to Sythe/sign up straight after they're banned. If there is a year or more since then they've at least had the chance to mature and think about it. But I do believe people can change.

As long as a good review of the scam report on the other site is done per case when banning them I'd vote for leave it as it is.

It's just that current system can get you banned really easy if you are banned elsewhere.

I had to vote for completely remove because it is closer to my beliefs. But that doesn't mean ignorance... I'd like to see situations assessed properly. If you scammed $1k somewhere, you should not be around.

As I said before, if people want to, they can easily change all their contact info and get a new ISP, etc.

Also as I previously stated, scammers can change and I still don't like it when people have to repay someone who quit. I understand, money could disappear.

Then again, if you're using the same contact info, which is usually the way people get caught, well you're either dumb if your intent was to scam again, or perhaps careless and forgot of your past actions.

Likewise. However, any blackhat activities shouldn't be looked down upon if they did it before they joined Sythe, and stop subsequent to joining.

 

I voted for 1 year stature of limitations because people can change and it is better for people to come back, with whatever reputation it is, then to join and ban evade. Atleast people will know the said users history.

But to go a step further with the suggestion I made in the previous thread... I think it should be required for any person who falls under the statute of limitations to post a thread in an Apology/Confessional forum, otherwise they are subject to a ban for their Offsite Offenses and for not being honest when staff find out.

I don't understand why we would let any scammers back here period, but that may just be me. I voted last time for the one year statue plus black hat, but I'm changing my mind after further consideration.
