Something very scary happened today.

I can admit, I break runescape rules, sometime major ones. and I was just logging on Runescape after school and I got de 'Your account has been locked, please log onto our website for more information.'
You probably know what I was thinking. I thought I was banned for Real World Trading. But, that was not the case.
I logged on the website, and it just said I need to change my password. I was like WTF?
I never got a reason for my account being locked, but now it's all good and I got my account back. I was spooked af, its a pretty old account.
Has this ever happened to any of you? If so, please leave the story below I'd love to hear them.

 

Usually this means someone was attempting to access your account and/or change the password.

 

Or maybe did you just login in from a strange place / IP recently

 

Check your email and see if someone was trying to get into your account.

 

To change the password, you need to do that through the registered email, so he would have seen that.

It is likely someone, as the people above have said, has tried to guess your password, or submitted a ticket claiming it got hacked, and trying to recover it.

 

that would freak me out too but did you log in anywhere else or share the account?

 

I have a VPN, I suppose that's what it is. But I didn't have any emails I didn't send. But it was super scary lmao, but everything is settled now, I just wanted to hear your thoughts and if anything similar has ever happened, I think it makes a nice topic

 

I've had one of my accounts locked before. I'm pretty sure it was due to hiring a few questers. I had to submit a ticket however, which makes it odd you only had to change the password. Who knows, at least it's all good for now

 

The VPN you used is probably what caused the account to lock, just for reference for the future, if you get caught RWTing you would get banned not get your account locked.

 

I let a friend on my account and they locked it because my IP went from UK - USA

 

Yeah I've had my account locked before when the IP changes country. Not a huge deal if you're the original owner.

 

My account has been locked before for the same reason as Roary. It's pretty common if you share your account.

 

Pretty sure if you get caught for RWTing or botting your account gets banned, not locked. It's very likely someone tried accessing it by guessing or attempting a recovery. Does your account have any valuables? Could have tempted someone.

How long ago was this Roary? Never experienced it, I've lived in the Philippines and Bahrain, so it's way more likely to happen to me.
