Just another set of laws to oppress a certain group of people and ostricize them further. I agree it does help to an extent, especially around hospitals and other areas where people that are very sensitive to smoke reside, but it is starting to get out of hand quickly.
DBH has a valid point, there are quite a few things in the air, some are far more harmful than cigarette smoke, but they are hardly ever put on the spot by the media, unlike smoking. If that wasn't bad enough, larger taxes are being placed on cigarettes, driving the prices up even further, and quite a few people rather go broke than be without them.
Personally I think that is wrong, basically exploiting an addiction to gain more profit, some people might stop, but most will continue. Addictions are rarely ever resolved quicky either. This is violating human rights as I see it, however I dont think a person should be allowed to smoke anywhere they please, just within reason, the raising of prices is more of my concern actually.
I think countries should do whatever is in the best interest of their people, but also listen to them as well. Overall, this is not going to help, atleast not effectively, just widening the schism between the non-smokers and the smokers within society.
P.S. The 'designated' areas for smokers are usually in dark grungy areas quite a distance away, not to mention all the smoke from the other smokers is just amplifying the affects even more to those there. It might improve the health of non-smokers, but its 'killing' the smokers even faster.
