since when has using proxies = warranted a ban?

99% of them are vaders, I have no problem listening to the reasoning of the legitimate 1%, as I am doing with Cynthia right now.

If we allow people to post from proxies alone and get off with nothing, or just a TwC, we will won't be banning any ban evaders for a while.

I am wondering where you got those numbers from. Being a forum owner myself, I am quite aware of many members that constantly use proxies. You say you would be willing to simply attempt to talk with the member before banning them, but most of the other staff will not. This should be fixed right away as there is no clarification between you guys, or so it seems.

I'm not justifying her in any case. I just think you all should talk and set not only a guideline on this (which I appreciate that you are doing), but also create some understanding on the "power" that moderators are given. Absolute power is too much power.

Nowhere did I say that the other staff members were unwilling to talk to them, as I'm sure they all are.

The point is, a very small number of users who connect via proxies ONLY (meaning they never expose their real IP) are doing it for legitimate reasons. The amount of ban evaders who do it is much higher than the amount of legitimate users doing it.

We're currently in the process of determining a way to "meet in the middle" so to speak, so we don't let ban evaders get away with no punishment, and so we also don't completely rid legitimate users of the site.

Anyway, its futile for me to keep posting about the matter. Feel free to make any suggestions here, I will be actively viewing the thread, but I won't be posting anymore on the matter until we have something decided in the SL.

Thats not even the point of the thread tbh, the point is its not a rule and is being punished as though it were. I agree maybe using a proxy non stop is a bit sketchy, but fuck alot of people use a dynamic IP. Hell ive thought about it ever since being ddosed, regardless its NOT in the rules and coreys banning people for it as though it were. Global or not, making shit up is making shit up. Punishing people for something they could not of even known about is ridiculous, hes already backpedaled and unbanned one of the users in question but who knows how many others have been wrongfully banned ??

I can understand people using proxies but when the user randomly comes to a runescape blackmarket not to 'trade' it just seems really shady. I'm sure when they do find it there will be 4+ ban evaded accounts linked to cynthia.

I agree with Corey, but just because they don't post their real ip doesn't mean they have something to hide, however Corey has the power to determine whether or not their proxie use is malicious or not. If someone gets wrongly banned for using a proxie then they are more than welcome to post a dispute, like Cynthia. And out of all the users the staff might or might not have banned due to proxie use only one has come forward to post a dispute.

Tbh I think people should be able to use proxies all they like, some people just don't like people having access to their information. I also have no problem with ban evaders, they do no harm but yeh whatever. Changes IP over a set amount of time, that means if i were to use one you wouldnt know which were my "real" IP. Thats entirely relevant, its similar to a proxy in the sense it obfuscates the users "real" IP. Learn what it is people are talking about before you go around accusing people of being un educated. Stick to the real rules as i said earlier you have no discretion in your actions, you could have shot cynthia a PM (avoiding this extra shit storm on top of your other little rampage) asking about the IP but no that would obviously be too much work.

From this thread you make it quite obvious what you're up to. From your PM's I can tell your ban evading too, it's the basic get caught in a lie then suddenly get pissed off and start saying how stupid the person is.

OT: People who use proxies should have to provide a solid story for obvious reasons, and if nothing else send a picture/screen-share with a mod to prove their telling the truth. Then again, 2/3 of the site would probably be gone haha. It'd be interesting to see the amount of scams(%) done on proxies.

Ye its basically not a problem and i talked to Cynthia personally and she is currently at a University so I believe that is why she was posting from a proxy and that is not warranted for a ban, her and Corey cleared it up, Kudos for him giving her the benefit of the doubt, I overheard if this was back in the days she would have been permed no questions asked.

It is not in the rules to ban for this, but i agree with the suspicion, Its okay for people to be suspicious, and moderators especially need to be to keep sythe safe, because there are to many Vaders currently lingering, and posting from a proxy warrants suspicion, i don't hold anything against Corey nor any admin/mod, and i appreciate them keeping Sythe safe.
