Season 5: Seeding Changes & More

As usual, you'll have ten placement games to fight through before settling in to your tier and division, ready for the climb. But this time, they work a little differently: in previous seasons, placement games were way more impactful than regular season games.

Challenger players could lose all ten games and end up in Silver during the 2014 placements, while Bronze players could go on lucky winning sprees and end up in Plat before getting their butts kicked repeatedly until they fell a few tiers. Neither of these are good experiences, so while this year’s placements are still important, they won’t cause established players to swing as far up or down because of good or bad luck.

Your placement will still be heavily influenced by where you ended up last season. If you’ve never played ranked, then your form in your placements will be all that matters!

Finally, with the pretty substantial changes that preseason brought, we figured that everyone should have a fresh opportunity to rise to the top. Because of that, we’re again running a soft reset to player position with the start of the ranked season, meaning you’ll likely place lower than where you ended the previous season.

This should have been how it works to start, After ranking last season it was redicilious playing against Plat/dia's who did badly.

 

I won't be playing ranked until everyone gets settled. Last season I was plat and ended up in silver 4. That was a pain.

 

Thanx for the update quick question though. Why when i play normal games do i always end up going against gold-diamond players? Im only silver as of right now but constantly get set against much higher ranked players. I was told it had something to do with my MMR but i dont know much about MMR. How can i have a lot higher mmr and still be stuck in silver?

During these normal matches Ive purposely been countering myself for the knowledge aspect. I cant say that i do extremely well but ive found i can hold my own and allow my other lanes to hopefully take advantages. Im trying to understand 1 champion at a time entirely before i move to another champ. Ive been going super hard with ahri lately and its not necessarily her counters that give me the most trouble. Fizz and zed present the most difficulties for my ahri play. Yet i destroy leblanc's almost at will for some reason. Annie has always been a cunt to play against in any lane so ive learned how to successfully lane against her and win. Any tips on how i increase my play against zed/fizz

 

Normal MMR and Ranked MMR are two different things.

I.e, have a higher normal win to loss ratio, you'll be matched vs players with similar ratios as yourself. Thus, you could be ranked in Bronze 5, but play normals more seriously and have a better win to loss ratio and get matched vs higher ranked players.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter what RANKED rating someone has in normals. It's just logical that better players would have a higher ranked rating IF they played ranked, and thus, if you have a good normal win to loss ratio you play vs people with similar ratios, and some of them may play ranked and have a decent rank.

That really sucks. I've never had issues with people 'settling'. I just rush my placements; then climb if needed.

Boosters are definitely going to see less business, it was pretty easy before. I'm glad though, last season's was craycray.

This whole thing bums me out. Less impact obviously means less moolah for the boosters, assuming people are keeping in touch with the news on Riot's end.

Only gonna need one dad to collect the money this season.

 

I just hope I don't get put into silver again.. Was plat last season, I know even if I got 7/3 I'll be going in silver Rito why!
