I started rs in '05. I think that slayer itself was tailored around the point and click method of combat which makes it seem like a burden. I realize that they don't mix well together but that could be fixed by making there be fewer monsters per task while making drops better and buffing them. This would make it an asset to use all of your abilities to their full power and not just be spamming the % of weapon damage we see being used today. I think they did a good job with the majority of the combat system but the game itself hasn't adapted to it like slayer

    rs3 dying?

I gave EOC a chance, and I found it just horribly boring, everything so ugly, changed, and the wow-copy combat. I also miss the old armor, I'd basically do ANYTHING to get back to 2011 with 2008 font & old general stores. like mix of 2008-2011.

like darkest dream is saying however, is that this game is DEAD. EOC fucked up everything, most worlds never have above 100 people anymore, which is really sad. and w1, dead.... :/

All of my friends have quit, and me too... for good reasons.
This update was just waste of time and useless. They didn't even try to ask the older players, just force it up on EVERYONE! Really sad.

and my sig says alot about this.

It is dying. It will continue to die, but not die out. There's still going to be those loyal players who still play runescape. Maybe some new players coming, but more leave than join. What they need to do is start polling for ingame content like they do on oldschool.

    rs3 dying?

How can something be dying that was never alive? Once EoC launched, RS died player-wise. RS 3 just further killed it.

After launch of eoc there were still 90k players online. It was nearly the same if not identical to that of it's pre-released version. Players left after continuous bad updates. Seems lively to me.

I definitely do not remember it being that active. Prove that statistic please. I remember making a thread seeing like under 40k players online after EoC's launch. And they never came back. I'm not buying this, at all. If you can prove me wrong I'll admit I was wrong, but I seem to remember activity dropping after EoC.

How would I be able to prove that? After coming back 2 months prior to the release of eoc there were 90k players playing 9 pm est. I'm not going to pull that out my ass for no reason, I'm against the eoc too. Activity did drop, like it always had along the years.

Maybe the initial reaction was 90k players, but because (as mentioned above), it ultimately made content into dead, useless content, the player base sharply dropped. I do not believe that in an EoC-less Runescape, that the content would have died out that fast. Logging into Runescape 3...there's just not all that much to do. Feels like a single player game now.

It's the longevity of the game that causes dead content. Over a period of time, there will be no need for these minigames if they are useless, everyone has or better stuff came out for that specific tier. I logged in a week to check out the state of the game and I'll tell you this, it's a ghost town. It's really a shame :(

My apologies for acting like an ass. I get heated when I think about just how fast and far Runescape has fallen. Literally just this time last year I'd be having a blast in Runescape. I understand 07 is there to add some nostalgic value back into the fray...but I want Runescape 3 to be populated...I want the core game getting updates to be populated again. Runescape is no fun single player...if I wanted that I'd play Skyrim.

I wouldn't say it's dead, although the player base has dropped a lot after the EoC/ RS3 update. The one thing they did right was bring out Oldschool servers without an extra fee, but a lot of people have created a separate account so they can play on both types on server, which has kept the game running if anything. The best thing they could do is to turn back time like they did with free trade and get rid of Eoc/ RS3 but I highly doubt they'll listen to their player base to be honest.

Well it will continue to decline really...

The saving grace will be the old school servers.

Indeed. OSRS is maybe low on population but still isn't dead.

Take a look at the world list and see how many players are on each.

I doubt rs will ever die completely but it certainly is worrying.

I tried and tried to play through EOC and RS3, its mostly just the way that Jagex ignores its playerbase and acts like there doing everything right which seems to obviously be a marketing ploy.

How so? If they removed that completely and only left OSRS, it'd never make sense. All that hard work gone into accounts. There are usually around 35k people on RS3, and 15k on OSRS. RS3 is more popular, and the amount of people that still buy spins will keep jagex able to run it for the players who enjoy the game for a long time to come.
