Religion Affecting Personality

They seem to be alot nicer,
But a happy man can turn into a raged man in a mather of seconds.

I think it really only affects your way of thinking.

well....i think that christians and religeous ppl are kinder not becuase they are nicer people but because they think they have to be. Like when im talking to someone i dont like i try to act nice just becuase im supposed but on the inside i still wana punch theyre face in.

Thats just called shwing restraint and respect, and the people who are religious think the same things, they just do it out of fear of consquences.

people who have their lives devoted to there religion bite their tounges when someone is pissing them off or they wanna debate with them. religion do change alot of people.

So you really do believe that a Christian or anyone for that matter is not performing a certain act just for the act of performing, that they are always worrying about pleasing the one up there?

We are all human beings, and deep down, we still know and have what is called goodness, whether or not we let it develop and shape our personality.

Yes it does affect them, but that doesn't mean that just because you are not religious, you are not nice.

Yes, but the question here is: Does religion influence on a person's personality, and tactics?

And of course, I'm very sure that an atheist/agnostic would have the same potential as someone religious though. I've met a lot of very nice atheists here on Sythe.

Generally speaking though, majority of religious people I believe (christians n catholics), have a better attitude than the common atheist, because of the influential religion taught upon them. They're taught that if you sin, you go to hell or whatever, and that pushes them to behave differently, or not in some cases. Some people just don't give a fuck.

The average Catholic is nicer than me. Im not nice.

Atheist pride <3

Stop giving me that crock of crap
You don't ahve to be anything to treat the person next to you nice.

That's just another excuse your making up to do whatever the hell you want....

? Is that directed to the person above you?

They are nicer because they think their deeds govern their afterlife, that's about it.

No, Christians don't. The bible says that nobody is perfect and things done by man, can't get you into heaven, but only what has been done by God. A perfect non Christian gets no closer to heaven than any other non Christian.

and being a Christian doesn't "control" you. Christians have the desire to please God for everything he has done for us.

or they do it becuase they beleive that all are gods ppl and we should lvoe them all, not all christians act out of fear of hell dude......

it gives morals and understanding

They give off that impression because they're religion is considered to be a kind one. Religion does effect your personality however. As Chritians/protestants we are taught not to sin. And to give unto others. I, However am taught to give to those who deserve it and sin if it is the right thing to do.

I love everyone on this Earth, even if they piss me off I will still love you and show affection, but Christians, do this the same way and want to be rewarded for it afterwards. (Heaven) Maybe not out of fear of hell, but out of hope for heaven... Regardless I do it for my own reasons, while Christians do it to be rewarded.

Who is better.?

Who says Christians WANT to be rewarded? Everyone wants to be rewarded for a good deed. You can say that Christians do work harder, and try to do good deeds, hoping that it would, bring them closer to heaven. But that doesn't necessarily prove that they're worse. They still strive for better deeds. And I for am a Christian, and I do not do good deeds, thinking I'll go to heaven, I do it to help others.

Who says Christians WANT to be rewarded?

The bible... God says I want to be your rewarder for you to look for to your prize.

Everyone wants to be rewarded for a good deed.

I don't want to be rewarded for doing good, satifaction should come from knowing you helped someone.

I am only saying that actions may look nice, but sometimes you have to look at what motivated these actions. If I did something out of sincerety and you do it to be rewarded I think i am a little better then you.

Well first of all, I believe in a higher power...(God) but i don't conform to a religion. I do believe in heaven, but that doesn't effect my personality what so ever.. I don't WANT to be rewarded I just find it common sense to be kinder to people and not be a jackass. Even if i knew there was no heaven.

But on another note, I'm not always nice. I can be a asshole at times, everybody sins...Everybody gets angry, Its just how life works. I do however believe that something in their life made atheist not believe in God, something influenced them. Whether it was a friend who has no hope. their own opinions/research into the topic that lead them to believe that God dose not exist and they have to tell everyone that or else their going to die(sarcasm) Off topic though.

No it dose not effect ones personality. Their are Christians in bad neighborhoods that kill people. Its all a matter of how you grew up, were, when, who raised you, your surrounding's..ext..
