Regarding giveaways

How winners are chosen in giveaways featured in the donor lounge or sandbox that pivot on the basis of randomization should be done by using the dice roll offered here to avoid any potential cheating or bias regarding entrants. It's not fair to those who enter and invest time in improving their chances of winning in said giveaways only to be screwed by potential discrimination.

Huge support, this should make it way more fair, I don't really care who wins aslong as its'done in a fair matter. In my opinion it's fine to give things away to something you want to give it to, but it shouldn't become a big thing. Winners of giveaways should be chosen completely random or a note should be added to the main post saying the giveaway winner won't be randomly chosen.

A Giveaway is a giveaway, the person hosting that giveaway has the right to disqualify people if he so wishes to, its his money.

If he disqualified everyone but a few people I'd agree, but last I checked there were over a dozen people left in that competition to win.


If him issuing disqualifications was meant to prevent the giveaway from happening, I'd agree, but he disqualified some and left others perfectly able to win the giveaway, as someone did win and was paid, I don't support.


It's his money, he can give it away and disqualify whoever he wants.

 

Basically, using your suggestion would be the same thing as putting restrictions on which homeless people you decide to give your money to on a daily basis. No.

How so? I'm pretty sure my suggestion is to prevent any inclination of cheating or bias when determining a winner. Disagreeing to this suggestion favors the opposite.

 

AFAIK There aren't any official rules in regards to dicing anywhere besides the Sandbox and the specific dicing thread in the donor lounge. I don't see why we should impose restrictions on other sections when we already have places for legitimate competitions and giveaways.

 

Are you specifically talking about using dice rolls here instead of a random # generator elsewhere?


If So, I still no support for the same reason as above lol, its his money, he can give it away however, to whoever, and whenever, he wants.


If someones going to host a giveaway at all, I don't care if he disqualifys me and 50 others, if someone else still gets money, then its still a nice gesture on his part.


This is going to be the unpopular opinion but that's why I'm on sythe.


Saying every giveaway has to be done via a dice roll isn't the right way to go about it, if someone wants to use a random generator they should have that right.


I don't mind requiring a video or a gif of the random generator though when giveaways happen.

 

Those are the two forums I'm talking about. There isn't anywhere else where you can host legitimate giveaways.

Again for clarification, this would only be administered when the basis of determining who wins is done by randomization, e.g. random number generator.

Again, there is no point in mentioning disqualification because that is not the subject of matter.

As Sythe said, giveaways of this matter are an unilateral contract, meaning authenticity is a priority, and by determining a winner in this matter, it makes it 100% authentic.

 

its pretty obvious this should be a rule, for all we know he hit that random number generator 10 times because he didnt like who won, a dice roll prevents that.

 

Videos don't mean a whole lot, someone could just keep re-making videos until they get a winner they like. I agree with everything else you said though.

A video requirement/gif requirement of the generator would be just as effective though and still allow people to use other things besides a dice roll.


I'd prefer that requirement to just a dice roll requirement.

 

it wouldn't be effective at all. It wouldn't prevent cheating as you can just start a recording whenever you want or do multiple attempts/cuts until you get something desirable.

 

I know I'm just arguing because lean paid me $2k to.

 

To my knowledge, this wouldn't be applicable to Lean's case because the giveaway is already complete, this would be for future/pending giveaways. I'm not trying to spite anyone, just trying to make things fair for both parties.

 

Ah I see what you're saying now. I support this 100%. Honestly seeing giveaways in sections NOT meant for giveaways just puts up red flags. I don't think we should impose restrictions in other sections just because people were gullible with Lean's giveaway.
