    RAM Problem - LAPTOP -

Ok, so ive been out today and bought a 1gb stick of ram to add to my sisters laptop, ive fitted it all good and theres also 512mb of ram in there aswell, however when i start up the laptop and i check how much is installed, it only shows up 898mb, i was thinking this could be the power supplies fault, what do you think?

It could be because you have 512 in there aswell because from what i know having two different sizes of ram makes it smaller.

I've tried it with just the 1gb in and the laptop doesn't start :S

im thinking the 512 is needed because the psu can only handle running 512 and a little bit of the 1gb

It is not a power supply issue. its a motherboard issue. ur mother board can not read it all. ether the motherboard dont support 1g of ram or ur ports are fucked.

Well, OSes don't use all of the RAM mostly, or it can be your motherboard not having the ability to read it all

so u tried taking the 512 stick out and put the 1 gig ram in its place?

go do that corsair ram test thing to see how much ram your motherboard of the laptop supports.
