Computer shuts down when I put in RAM

Alright, my computer came with 1gb of Ram, but only 512mb installed. So I wanted to install the extra 512mb yet when I do it gets up to the black Windows loading screen, then restarts. No, but I'm checking with the person who sold me it to see if they had any problems.

sounds like the ram is faulty...what type of bios do you have it might include a built in ram checker to make sure its not faulty ram

Nah, sadly it doesn't have a built in RAM checker. Here's my bios info.

Make sure the RAM is in properly, and check the BIOS to see if it recognizes it.

It could have been damaged by static electricity see if theres a warranty on the RAM.

Whats the clockspeed of the ram? Your m/B may not be able to cope with the higher frequency of the ram.

If you have an old motherboard, you may be required to put a pair of ram sticks in, not just one.

If that's not the case, you either have the wrong make/type of ram, or it's faulty.

I suggest going on your motherboard's manufacturers website and seeing if it tells you about the ram which can be used in it, or to check the make which it will work with, take the side off your PC and look manually.

The Ram is more likely faulty. Replace the motherboard, and upgrade the RAM space.

You may be installing it incorrectly. Can you post what the specs of the ram are, and how you are going about installing it?

That;s what came with the computer. As for putting it in, I'll have to see the way it's put in.

Get someone qualified to put it in for you, then you will only be chargd for the cost of that, and when he see's something go wrong when he tries installing it, he'll fix it for free

Well tried switching slots and everything. Kept shutting down, so it looks like I'll need to buy some new RAM. Info on my motherboard is here

Well if it came with the computer and its DDR RAM and if your installing it correctly then it must be broken.
