Prison Treatment.

I have been discussing with my mother quite some time now about this.

Where I live there's a jail that is so full of prisoners that some of them have to sleep in the bathrooms near the toilets and stuff.

She thinks it's not right because, despite their crimes, they're human beings and they deserve human rights and all that.

But I think, since they killed people, they violated my own rights taking away my stuff they do whatever they want and hurt people, I think they should stay like that.

What do you think?

Well this is quite the topic id have to say.

Well to be totally honest man I truly in my heart believe that no man on this earth should be able to lower another man down to the point of scum and sleeping by a toilet, as if he is better than the other. It does not mater the crime we all have fallen short of the right track in life, and we all will commit crimes some not as hefty as the next but you have to think about it would you want that to be done unto you, or anyone in your family. The only difference between us and them is they have gotten caught.

Now don't get me wrong i do believe in punishment but if that consist of making someone sleep by a toilet or depriving them of food water or things needed to survive or even making them feel like they don't belong i disprove of that by a long shot.

BTW everyone in jail are not murdered, we often criticize these people and look at them as they are some kind of outsider but you have to remember they are still human and they make mistakes that they alone have to deal with but no one deserves to be treated like shit or like an animal. Thats not for us to judge.

I'll agree with Nerfed and most people in prison are in there for minor things like buying or selling drugs. I also work with quite a few guys that came out of prison and all them seemed cool so I don't think we can justify things, even though my father is in prison, there are times that I wonder what it's like.

It's punishment enough to be put behind bars away from the people that you love. Those people are being treated like an animal.

And as Nerfed said, some could be falsely accused, some could be in for minor things, not everyone is there for murder. And the ones there for murder wouldn't usually be the one sleeping near the toilet. He's killed once, doesn't stop him from doing so again, he's more likely to be feared than someone that's there for drugs or something along those lines.

I dont agree, believe me there are sick people in this world who would kill for fun and some murders can never be justified, but if a child is tortured by his parents and grows onlder and kills them should he be the one sleeping by the toilet or should his parents rot in hell ???

I personally feel that for extreme things like what is mentioned above, jail should be a lot worse. In some places like south africa they have some really scary jails. I'm not saying it should be to quite that extent but near it would be nice. They're good in the fact that prisons these days are a waste of time. We spend millions of dollars from our tax to care for these prisoners and provide TV for them and all that. I feel its too cushy considering what they have done. A common argument is: Oh but what about their rights? I feel that if you kill another person or something similar, you void your rights considering you've just stolen another persons life. These harsh prisons have minuscule re-offending rates which, gradually means that the number of people in prison will decrease.

I agree with you though Dj, some people are there for drug charges or some shit like that. I don't feel they should be subjected to the prison I've been thinking of in my above paragraph.

Now how is that so..... why is murder worse that drug dealers, drug trafficing probably kills as man people as a murderer look at these mafias killing behind drugs. I also would like to add you must look at instances like if it were you and you knew you were truly sorry for your wrong doing should you be tourtured and deprived of things because of what others think of your crime. Let your own guilt eat you alive.

Ye well I can only speak for me I dont think anyone deserves to be treated like 1/2 of a person because of there actions, but im sure there is a load of people who think other wise like the parents of murder victims and people of that nature, most of the time families of these victims speak out of rage and hurt about how they would love to see these murderes rot in hell but give it 20-30 years, after the rage and intemperment goes away then, and only then will you see true justice, a persons ability to speak true punishment to the accused and believe me it will not be "I hate you for killing my son or daughter or whoever it might be.

In my opinion it all depends on the crimes they have committed and the circumstances of the individual, however this can't really be portrayed into every prison so that each individual has different living arrangements.

Obviously some prisons will also be better than others, and it's just unlucky if you get stuck in a worse off one ! But I find it hard to feel sorry for a pedophile or a child murderer who has to sleep on a hard floor. As the old saying goes "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime".

Exactly so we dont have the right to put someone else in a place of punishment, but we as people/humans tend to think were better than the next and we cast judgment and set punishment. I would never put someone thru something I couldnt see my kids go through even myself.

I've done time, nothing serious, longest stay locked up was 2 months. but I have a buddy that killed a prison guard during an escape attempt in Utah. He just recently avoided the death penalty by pleading guilty and in place of death, got 3 consecutive life sentences with no chance of parole. And I write to him now and again and if I've learned anything through my own experiences and his letters is that prisoners deserve rights as well. Prisoners may have done bad things, but who hasn't? what sets the line for right and wrong? Look what America did in Vietnam. Look what we did in Iraq. The Iraqian war was over OIL. We took their country's leader, who has NOTHING to do with 9/11 and killed him, took his country and forced democracy upon it. So if killing is wrong, if killing for self gain is wrong, and if stealing from others is wrong then our entire fuckin country should be locked up and the key thrown away. I'm sure you know someone personally who was or still is in Iraq. Do you know who they were killing? NOT just terrorist. they were killing innocent CITIZENS!! So maybe that person you know over seas should be brought back and forced to sleep next to a dirty rotting toilet?

Same alot of people I know that went to prison is for simple stuff like drugs, My father is also one of those people. But I think murders/rapist etc have no rights. They've taken someone elses rights. If it was up to me murders/rapists etc would be killed.

Why are people comparing murder and drug dealing? Although murder is (usually) knowingly and directly taking someones life, I am sure the actions of drug dealers result in many more deaths, despite being indirect in comparison to murder.
Anyway, I think Nerfed was spot on in his analysis.
