Prevent scams: Request proper PMs before trading!

Might i make a little addition to this. Although the one posted is brilliant and undoubtedly will keep all parties safe, my method listed below Is also just as satisfying and allot quicker.



If you add them, then skype was already listed, take a screen shot of it and then send them a pm in this format right after you add them on skype:

I guarantee any report if you show a screen shot of them posting there skype in a thread and link them to that thread + show the screen shot of it, it's just as valid.


If someone however adds you, Ask first to post on your thread, then tell them you won't send a pm until they send you one first, and to make sure they send you one in this format:

My skype username:
Sample of current skype conversation:

Then you can say something like 'I've received your pm' and send them a message back in the same format (now the sample conversation should also include the last thing you said).

I think detailing the actual trade itself + sending all the users involved skype (incase using a middle man) is very helpful and will assist in the long run but this is just my method of practicality for those doing 20-30 trades a day!

 

Thanks for making this Superman, hopefully lots of people will read this. Perhaps we should set something up to make all new users have to read this before they can post or something? Since new users are often the people that fall victim to such scams.

Also, people should know that just because you've confirmed it's the real person doesn't mean you're still safe. Anyone can scam, even if they aren't an impostor. That's why it's also important to use MMs and OMMs, who's identity should also be checked with this pm format.

I implemented this requirement for OMM's back in '11 when I first got HMM. Due to recent events, Superman decided to encourage the public to follow the same guidelines. I'm hoping that users take the time to use this as it will help prevent a lot of scams due to carelessness.

This is something I have been aware of. It is exactly why I am only willing to trade if I receive the paypal money first, especially considering paypal acts as a middleman where they can chargeback if its a scam. I know people will sometimes chargeback scam, but the people around here with $50-100 to spend are probably responsible enough to do a deal correctly whereas the ones with $5-10 are more riskier.

People will also do this with official middlemen, get the OMM to PM this way and then the person sends money to the "OMM" who is actually the same person scamming them.

 

I'm sorry but firstly this has nothing to do with this thread I think you just read the title and left a reply without reading what it was about secondly, ever asked yourself what if someone charges back when you don't scam and have paid up completely? PayPal is certainly not a middle man in any way shape or form due to the fact that if someone charges back they will in 90% cases give to the person who charged back hence why Player Auctions is used with sellers to avoid these types of scams. Also I don't understand why you would think low trades are riskier when scammers are out to make money so it's the big trades to look out for. Also thats not true with the get OMM to pm, because firstly you have to post on an OMMs thread secondly the moment you request a PM you must check the Skype provided by the OMM to make sure you aren't talking to an imposter, there is no trade that is done where an OMM won't ask you to post on there thread and to send them a pm or post in the thread itself your Skype and the Skype you are trading, therefore using an OMM is the most recommended thing on Sythe, it's worth loosing 5%-10% then loosing 100%. Also if someone adds an OMM to your Skype you MUST confirm pm to make sure your not talking to an imposter even if you recognise the Skype profile, if anything goes wrong you need the evidence to avoid being liable.

I'm glad this has finally come to everyone's attention to use these guidelines, there has been far too many sloppy PMS that have gotten people scammed and not just little scams either.
I have been using something similar to this every time I send a PM.
