    PreMed Help!

    Hi,
I am currently 23 living in the united states. I hate the 9-5 lifestyle and I've been dreaming about doing medicine for roughly a year since I graduated. I want to go back to school, and pursue medicine. I need advice for people that are doing undergrad for bio etc. Any insight would be nice.

I guess my current plan is to go back to undergrad pick up a human bio major for 2 years, since i only need to take prerec to graduate with human bio. Then med school for 4 and residency. I just need like more insight on what to really do.

This. You need a pretty stellar GPA, years of research and a slew of other things ontop of just a degree in a health related field. Try going back to your university and seeing if you can meet with a pre-med undergrad advisor, they'd be able to help you best as they would know the best route and options for you to take based on what you've already done.

This is what I would recommend as well.

Also, if you dislike the 9-5 lifestyle, you might not be a huge fan of the 24/7 lifestyle of a med student/resident. If you're dead set on being a doctor, then I 100% recommend that. If it's just a career in the medical field that you're looking forward to, then maybe a RN/nurse practitioner is something you should look at as well. Less crippling debt and you're still helping people out.

Just going by what you’ve said it doesn’t seem you are into medicine as a practice.

You should be asking why medicine, its not a decision to be taken lightly.

Yea, Thank you everyone for your response. I am currently doing marketing. I've done a lot of research and I think I am going to go the PA route. Go back to undergrad for 1- 1/2 years, and then GRE PA school.

I dislike the redundancy of the 9-5 lifestyle, rather medicine was something I've always wanted to due but lack initiative. I do not want to go Rn/Nursing route but I am now thinking about becoming a PA.

Instead of PA you should go the NP route. Basically wind up in the same position, but if you go for NP you can work as nurse while in school, as well as eventually a RN, then NP.

What kind of medicine are you looking to go into? I of course recommend emergency medicine as thats my career, but it's good to know what you want to pursue exactly. Depending on what you want, the residencey can go over four years.

Yes! I'm like 100% set on doing PA. Going to do nondegree courses to complete my pre reqs and complete roughly 2k volunteer hours before applying!

I also want to do Emergency medicine. Are you currently in Med school or finished?
