Please fucking upgrade the forum software

That's a mod power and we have never wanted to give users any moderator powers.

 

Most other forums allow that, it's stupid to have it as a mod feature. People constantly bitch that gold sellers have the wrong price in their titles, but it's so tedious to get it changed (especially if you have multiple threads).

Support. Read them all and it seems like they all would be great additions.

 

There might be a lot of work updating every feature that Matthew has implemented. I want to know how hard it is to update all the features before making my decision. Why? Because I dont want him to have no life updating every little feature he worked so hard on...

Also, its cool features to have but Im okay with the current forum so thats why Im not saying support right away. It really depends on how hard it is to change everything.

Full support op. After years of "wait for vb4" and the whole NVM JK no vb4 bit I'm growing weary.

My primary issues are tagging, notifications and mobile. Though I support OPs other points as well.

 

I support the changes but I wont support if its too hard to update all the features. I know it sounds weird but as I said, I dont mind staying as it is so why not see their opinions before.

Also, I know nothing is easy and we have to get it done at one time or another. I just wouldnt want to be Matthew if everything I changed and implemented on Sythe for years wouldnt be compatible with the updated version.

 

None of this is hard to do. Tons of website have to update their software on a regular basis and make sure they fix anything that breaks. The thing is, we've waited for so long that everything we've added onto the forums will most likely break.

It will just probably take several days of multiple people's time to do smoothly. We could start out by having a clone hosted elsewhere and mess with that and see what exactly will break, then fix those issues, and once we have the coding to fix it, we do another clone, some beta testing, and finally save a backup, go into scheduled maintenance mode and get it done. For the next week or so there could be a warning on top of the website and a bug report page that'll make sure people take extra precautions, since it is indeed a trading website, and then once it's all clear we're done, or if we run into major issues we take another backup for proof purposes in case someone posted something that would get them banned, then revert back. Not a lot can go wrong if it's done properly.

Sythe as a community is way too paranoid. I don't see how disallowing title changes really helps in our situation, though. It's not like we're Reddit. In their case, someone changing the title after garnering thousands of people's "approval" can be dangerous. The worst thing someone can do on a Sythe title is something stupid and if we just have logs of title changes it'll be fine.

 

I think we've gotten to that point in the argument before, but down time is apparently detrimental in our Google search rankings. I still think these changes should be made though.

 

Apparently it will hurt the SEO but I'm not really against it.

 

Every Mybb forum in existence has the option and it doesn't really affect Seo as much as you would think.

 

If anything the new version has better SEO than the vBSEO we're using currently. Downtime will not affect SEO as long as we just have a temporary overlay and it's for a brief period of time. What's more detrimental to our search rankings is having software that didn't even have SEO-friendly titles until it was manually added at a later time. And do we just want better SEO that brings people to Alyssa Rosales dog fucking videos or a better software that will retain members? The latter's the end result I'd personally select.



We probably got more hurt from all the actual downtimes we had every week a while back when we had terrible hosting for Sythe and continued getting attacked.

 

Alright thats sounds like a good plan. I would support that. Its true that we waited a long time and it has to be done. We should update it now and start repairing the broken features before making anything else compatible with this old version of forum.

 

I've linked this to both Matthew and Richard. They're the only two that really have any say over any of this.

 

Govind told me that he would write @mentions but he would need you to add a database table for it so he couldn't. You should totally let him do it.

 

@Rich, what about the notifications thing? Roary said it was approved and pending implementation?
