First off unplug all of your computers wires.

Now open up your computer, you may need a screw driver for this part. If you aren't sure how to open up your computer refer to your owners manual.

Once your computer is open you should see something that is similar to this, this is a good time to get a vacuum hose and clean up all the dust in your fan, also unscrew your fan off the mother board and get all the dust out of that.

Now that your done with that, find where your ram slots are (should be where the rectangular chips are.) and undo the latches on the side. Now find some rubber gloves or something and pull out the existing ram card unless you want to keep it.
Fourth.jpg

Now find your new RAM cards and open the package take out the cards (with the rubber gloves on) and place the cards in very gently, if you get the cards to fit in and the latches don't fit in right, you don't have the right cards.

Once your done you should see something like this. Now put back on your top and plug in.

Start up your computer and go to My Computer > System settings

Looking for a good place to buy Ram? I recommend NewEgg.Com

No problem, I'm glad to help :) I just noticed how off my camera's date it (by years)

Great guide, good detail and pictures are what they should be.
10/10.

I expect I should use this sometime soon on my old pc. The rubber gloves are an alternative to the anti static wristband?

eh you don't really need rubber gloves juts touch the computers power supply every now and again.

But if you use a vacuum on your computer your going to have problems with ESD you should never use a vacuum on a computer unless the vacuum is made for electrical equipment. And perhaps show which RAM the user should buy like DDR or DDR2.

Great guide, this will help a lot of people.

You should never vacuum the inside of your computer, it may ruin the internal components of your computer and not boot up. Use an air spray or portable battery powered vacuum. ESD = nono.

Good guide nonetheless.
