    Philosophy Question

Assuming the dog is anatomically and physiologically symmetric, it will walk straight between the bowls. Since it has absolutely no prejudice of where to look first (and of course both smells reach the dog simultaneously), it will stand there until it dies of starvation.

    Well, ok, maybe not :p

Perhaps the dog's thoughts would mirror those of Robert Frost:

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth.

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
    Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
    Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

    Philosophy Question

Wow, I was just reading some posts. When I came to this conclusion, the english spelling blows

its pronounced balony and yet we throw a G and and A into it

    Sorry back on topic...

I came to the perfect anser.

Theres NO telling what the dog will do. Its a 50/50 chance, like flipping a coin. Sometimes he will choose one, and other times he will choose the other

    Philosophy Question

It's kind of a moot point, since it only works in theory. In actuality, that situation can't happen, as they couldn't be completely equal, and there would always be outside variables affecting the situation.

Hell just eat both of them and he'd choose which one at random or spill both in the middle and eat it.

    Philosophy Question

I appreciate the fact that you took this in-depth, but I'm going to be honest with you, I HIGHLY DOUBT that a dog would choose because of instinct relating to the eating of another dog (which would be cannibalism). This is because
    A) Dogs, among other animals, usually only refer to cannibalism as a last resort and this isn't really a last resort situation where instinct for survival would come in, and there is no other dog.
    B) The dog would most likely go to the bowl that he/she saw or smelled first, depending on preference of smell.

    Philosophy Question

The dog, having the average intelligence of a 2 year-old human baby, would likely assume by instinct that every animal is similar to it, their heart would be on the same side as it's

    Philosophy Question

The dog, having the average intelligence of a 2 year-old human baby would have no instinct of killing unless it was closely related to the wolf (husky) and nearly no train of thought and would go by sense. whichever it smelled 1st (dogs smell before sight however if it could not distinguish them by smell it would then go by sight, etc.).

Are you suggesting that dogs don't have instinct to kill? instinct is not thought. i think you should read the huge post i made on the first page.
not to be blatantly obvious, but.... you are incredibly retarded

    Philosophy Question

I would agree with this post but then there is the question of which bowl it would look at first. This brings us back to a similar question to the original.

I then would have to agree with the 'eating both' solution to the question. But if this was the case, it wouldn't be much of a question nor an answer.

So the only way to answer this question is to not have a definite answer but to have a chance to guess at which bowl he would be eating out of at his own choice and since our decisions or thoughts have no difference into the answer of the question, it has to be the only real answer that we guess the left or right bowl alone and have a 50% chance of being correct.
