Have Sythe.org hold the money on trust until the victim can be found for a period of time. If/when that period elapses, distribute the money either to other scam victims or the sites development. This way if the victim cannot be found immediately, but is found after the funds are distributed, and if the trust still has monies in it, then that victim can be reimbursed. The main difficulty would be administration, which really only requires segregating the funds.

 

Giving the money to other (recent) scam victims sounds nice at first but it will just cause arguments / jealousy in the long run, people who were scammed will just get frustrated that the person next to them got money back from an unrelated scam and they didn't.

I would say give to a charity (people who will appreciate the money much more than we ever would) or donate it directly to the site, not CDT.

 

Voted give the money to other scam victims. This is ridiculously complicated to implement, of course, but there needs to be a blacklist of banned members that shows the "negative balance" of their Sythe account. If their IRL info is confirmed (via an actual Sythe verified system) then their full name should be released with a report on their fraudulent activity.

By law in the US if you do not make any payments on your debt for 7 years it is forgiven and you owe nothing and I think we should emulate that.

 

I'd prefer other scam victims, 2nd would be a public charity, 3rd/4th would be interchangeable between CDT and donating to the site. Not even sure why "let them off the hook completely" is listed because that shouldn't even be considered.

Voting scam victims but like I said anything would be more or less okay with the exception of letting them off scott free.

 

I think it should be donated to a charity, the rare instance a scammed party can't be found won't make up for how many people have been scammed in the past. You will repay what, $1000 / $40k+ people have been scammed out of?

The PR team should take an active role in assisting with locating scammed parties rather than just relying on the scammer to reach out.

For example scams over 3+ years old would have likely used a hotmail address and emailing the person with explanation / link to communication may help with contacting them.

In addition, if we forgive unpaid debt should this not be similar to bankruptcy then where the scammer has no trust remaining whatsoever (removal of all ranks / benefits associated with the site)

 

donating to teams should never be considered after the Jon incident. That should be taken off the list, CDT doesn't know how to handle money.

Anyways best solution is pay to scam victims, unless this is being abused? I don't like the idea of that.
Secondary to dev teams to aid in events/development projects.

I'd go with letting them off the hook if it weren't possible that old users could just pardon with a fake sincere pardon, not pay anyone back, then scam again.

So because of that I voted public charity. I didn't vote for previous scam victims because what happens when a scam victim gets repaid, then the person that scammed them wants to pardon and try and repay them; then they have to pay a different person? It's unnecessarily complicated and confuses things even more.
