Not sure if this belongs in tech support?

I'm looking to buy a computer, possibly even an AlienWare computer....

I need help. I want it to be a good/great gaming computer. Looking to spend up to2 thousand, but would rather keep it at 1200$ before taxes. I don't know if I should get a Laptop or a Desktop. Tigerdirect.com and some egg.com (trueegg.com maybe? I dunno I forgot the site name.)site have back to school deals going right now.

I don't know what to do!!! Should i go to the store and buy A Laptop/desktop? Should i buy one off Tigerdirect.com (or the other site)? Should I buy one off Alienware.com? i guess my problem is I don't know much at all about computers but what I hear about them... Help me please!!!

Alienware is basically made for gaming and I have tried it out before an older model though, I mean the graphics on there is purely amazing. I would probably get a laptop than a desktop since the desktop cost a shitload for than what you are asking but a desktop can still be bought under 2 grand. Remember they are expensive for a reason and mostly you are paying for the brand. You could build your own computer cheaper though and get the same results.

You want to buy it new not used though right? If new, then I suggest buying it straight from their website because it does come with a warranty. Don't know anything about tigerdirect or egg though so wait for someone else to answer those questions for you.

If I was a straight up gamer I would go for alienware out of anything else out there.

Well since I believe it was Dell that makes Alienware (took over) it has gotten alot better. So basically whatever you see on a regular laptop will be on Alienware. It uses Windows 7 as well with the option for Ultimate upgrade. So basically everything is there that you would see on a regular computer with Windows. Of course everything is upgraded and alot better since its mainly used for gaming so you do get more out of Alienware than a regular laptop with Windows 7. You can customize your options through Alienware website though if wanted too and add whatever you want thats available. But the more higher the price the better they are.

Alienware's weigh a ridulous amount. Even the m15x, which is one of their smaller versions weighs a whopping 9 lbs.

Yeah I do agree with that they are pretty thick as well, but they store a ton of memory double/triple other standard laptops. Of course you could just use an external for extra memory. I do love the design though. They did have an older model that didn't weigh too much let me see if I can find which one it was.
