No PM = No compensation.

K sorry Nate read the whole thing instead of skimming, Yea with the disclaimer it would be ideal as people would know what to expect, but what about changing request a pm to, seller pm's regardless of request? that way those who normally don't request would slowly catch on teaching them in the process.

Would def support that idea if thats what it took.

Gmail/Yahoo/Aol/Hotmail/Live/Mail.com I wont go on, are all very insecure, extremely. If you are using one of these addressees its your own ignorance.

Can you explain why? I wouldn't be surprised if it was the user's computer compromised and not these services.

What alternative(s) do you propose?

Feel free to tell me a foolproof method to not have it hacked, and ill gladly do it. Until then, if it gets hacked and people are scammed and dont get a PM, I wont be responsible.

Sign up with yahoo. Use fake IRL info. Choose questions that no one but you know the answer to. Choose a long alphanumberic password that you don't use elsewhere.

Oh - and use a mac ;) Or whatever it is you windows people do about malware.

I was lucky that my hacker is an idiot tbh. I could never be coming back to Sythe right now. I wouldn't even consider paying back thousands with no PM either. I'd just take the ban and be like good fight.

I so far am only obligated to pay back 50m...but am going to go ahead and pay back 75m (50%) to a 2nd guy as well.

Also my "hacker" is threatening me in much more ways then just taking another msn I make in the future...

Sythe's old irc. Maybe somebody could ask him to bring it back? I did a trade with marrow in it and it worked out fine.

I would support this.

What makes yahoo different? And all the above bolded in your quote are things I already do, and I have different passwords for every major website I use.

This. I'd prefer this method as it's more foolproof.

Mac isn't more secure than Windows, it's just less targeted.

Buying a Mac is costly and is simply security through obscurity; you could also create a 'hackintosh'. But SERIOUSLY,why the hell would people go through the trouble of getting a Mac just to use Sythe... Unless you're one of the top 100 traders (like R2P, video, plznate etc.) and you make significant income FROM sythe then it'd be a consideration.

Also, why is Yahoo more secure?

I tried looking up how I would go about recovering my gmail account if it's hacked and really, it's easier than a hotmail account. All you need is the account creation date, last login date, and any password you remember.

Thats pathetic. Anyone here claiming that if your account gets hacked its because of "your own ignorance" can blow me to be honest. Anyone with half a brain can put in enough guesses at that and end up getting it right sooner or later.

I've been using various yahoo addresses since I first became an MM, and haven't been hacked yet - and I'm sure it's not for lack of people trying.

More generally, I haven't heard of any issues with gmail or yahoo on any of the markets I hang around, but since Firez doubts gmail's security, may as well use the latter.

If you have filled the recovery info in gmail - contact gmail about this issue, if not - you have a lesson.
Gmail clearly states - enter the recovery question and your phone number to be the most secure.
If you have entered everything like ddfsfdfdsfs, it really does not help, and who came with an idea to use the fake information?
Such a stupid idea. Use your real information (do not make it public if you do not want to) and secure it as much as you can, here you go, no problems.

Interesting. Might try and do some research on it then I guess.

The intent of this thread is not to give free reign to scam; its to protect people like me and FireZ from getting royally screwed if someone who puts in enough hours trying to hack the MSN eventually gets it. If anyone has resonable alternatives to this (such as an official Sythe chat system) then please offer away, as the goal of this thread is solutions to make everyone more safe, not bickering.

You give someone with half a brain access to my MSN for one hour, and they can scam upwards of 20B if the people dont get a PM. Wouldnt be my fault, and if people cant honor my request to get a PM, then they are shit out of luck since I wont be forking out $20k to repay idiots.
The PM shouldn't be a get out of refunding free pass. It should be used as, most of the people see this and wont trade with the hacker. This limits the amount needed to refund, and saves the majority. This should not be an excuse not to pay, as I said, that is complete bullshit.

K, opinion noted and still disagreed with. Tell me a way for me and the other traders to be safe in our trades and ill do it, until then this suggestion is the best alternative for safety for everyone when an MSN gets hacked.

Secure it (recoveries/alternative emails/telephone) and do not add any random stuff like ddfdfddfdd, the more accurate and more information you have, the more secure the account is, good luck.

There is never a prefect solution. There are always going to be people against the flow, trying to mess things up. Its a never winning battle. The more secure we get, the more hackers evolve.

People put trust in our names, we should keep our end of the bargain. If anyone falls victim to our responsibilities, we should be held accountable. The safest thing for you do to is, have an ever-changing email that you only PM to potential buyers/sellers. That way you will never have a problem with refunding.

well, i guess all u can do is do your best to report your msn stolen ask quick as possible but i guess asking for pm is just common-sense, but i see some people just check to see if its the real msn or not, but i think its not all the victims fault if they get scammed then your announced on sythe your msn hacked.

When you have contacts and regular business partners with whom you deal $1000's per trade, a hacked MSN is a bit more damaging. I do keep my end of the bargain, I dont scam and I request my customers to PM me. They need to hold up their end of the bargain.

And an ever changing email is unrealistic, lets be honest. If you have any ideas that would help protect sellers without giving them this much leeway then please feel free to offer them, I am more than willing to consider any possibilities that can improve trading safety.

You can even have a wikipedia page about that person, that does not change anything if you have a secure account.

Let's make an example, you have a MSN account with all the info like dsdsfdsfd and no other information, so a hacker contact support and says ''I am a poor boy I had only a random stuff added, I did not add any additional information, help me''. It is just an example, there is no such a thing as a Gmail hack or so.

When you add atleast some of the information (recoveries, alternative email, telephone), then only it will be used for the recovery, if you do not add it, you provide a slight chance for the ''hackers'', which are not hackers at all, good luck.
