New to WoW

sorry if this is in the wrong place .

anyway, i was wondering if someone could explane the concept of world of warcraft to me. i currently am playing Runescape! I was looking it up and there are a lot of servers! people where also telling me you could only play on one server? anyway, if you pick a class do you have special abilities? are some class' better than others? if i wanted to start playing WoW, what would you suggest i buy? what character should i start with?

If that doesn't help, I guess I can answer your questions.

You can play on more than 1 server, but you can't hop on one server to another with the same character. Once you create a character on the server, he stays there (unless you pay to move him).

If you have any friends that play WoW, I highly suggest you to join their server. You will need all the help you can get to start off. I also suggest using the Refer-A-Friend offer. What it does is grant you 3 times the normal XP (faster leveling), and someone to level with (whoever refers you) and help you.

Each class has it's own unique set of abilities. For the most part, classes are balanced, it is just a preference of play-style. If one class gets too overpowered, they will probably be nerfed.

I suggest you try the 10-day trial first, and see if you can like it. You want to have someone that you can annoy and ask questions, because it might seem very difficult going from RuneScape to WoW. When I first started playing, I got really confused and quit after like 3 days. My cousin helped me out later, and now I enjoy the game 3029525823958342956832 times more than RS.

You should experiment with all the classes and see what fits your play-style.

I would suggest a warlock (caster), or a paladin (melee).

Yes, within each spec there are three 'specs' or talent trees. Depending on which talent tree you pick you will have a set of special abilities unique to your class/spec (Check out http://www.wowwiki.com/Class)

As the fellow above stated start with the 10 day free trial. If youre asking about buying gold to start you off you really don't need any, you will get plenty of gold from leveling up.

what character should i start with?
I would recommend starting with a character with a pet or healing capabilities, that means warlock, paladin or shaman (wouldnt recommend druid).

 

Just do the trial and see if you like it. I like it much more than RS simply because its better in many ways.
