Merge the Guides sections together

Guides are an easy way to get one-off traffic but if we have our guides easily displayed in the guides section it may be more beneficial for guests and they might want to contribute to the forums, for clarifications or corrections on guides.

The activity does not indicate that that many sections are required and now that we have a tagging system, they can just add a tag for the specific type of guide it is. The current section structure doesn't work for the amount of threads that are there.

The suggestion is pretty simple, remove all the subsections (they're a remnant of the UE days) and just have one section called Guides.

 

No support, the section currently holds alot of content - even if some of it is old.

It makes sense to have it split into the different subsections, and makes it easier to find specific types of guides.

 

I'm not saying we delete the guides, what are you talking about? We'd just be merging the subsections. A lot of these guides are old and outdated, but they probably still bring traffic, it would be easier if they were all in one section to allow guests to peruse them at their leisure easily.

Ehh, I was going to do a quick support due to the low activity, but I kinda gotta agree with bleushittle over there, I think the break down of the sections enables easier surfing through the section/sub sections.

It would be rather confusing/strange to have 100 guides from 5 different sections suddenly tossed into one, I especially think this would be tough on guests as you CANT tag guests.

Kinda did a 360 here and decided not to support this one, sorry buddy.

The tagging system is there for a reason, if we're going by outdated vBulletin ideals then what you said is true. But we need to start utilizing tagging for what it was made for. There is absolutely no reason for there to be that many sections. I know I like perusing guides on occasion and as it is, I have no interest in doing so because they are too separated. It won't affect people looking for guides because people use Google for that, who looks through forums for a guide about a particular thing. It's easier if they're all together so if you're like me and do enjoy reading guides then this is the way it needs to be.

 

I think we should reinstate the UE team and let them decide what to do with the sections.

 

But if the UE team won't happen I wouldn't mind all of them being in one forum.

 

At least merge internet, computing, and software specific. They all share a similar niche and are dead in content/activity.

 

I'd say merge them since no one is really using them at the moment. Everything there dates from a few years back with a few exceptions.

 

Exactly, since there are so few guides and most are dated, it basically stops users from generating new guides. I wanted to write a guide to try and contribute to Sythe but then I saw how many sections there were and since the guide is partially split between 3 sections- I figured I might as well try and instigate some change on the site and get those sections merged for ease of access.
