Man arrested for stealing Runescape accounts

i hope it will be a lessons for everyone..

 

Thats crazy. But you'd have to be a pretty big runescape account scammer to be targetted.

 

He was a man? Man some people need to get a life these days.

 

They arrested him for botnets.

Jagex own's the accounts. So their is nothing we can do about it. I do believe it is an internet game where "stealing" and "burglary" shouldnt be brought up tho.

 

Correct me if I am wrong, but in the JaGex Terms & Conditions (http://www.runescape.com/terms/terms.ws), at the bottom of the page under the 'General' clause, it states:' These terms and conditions are governed by English law and any dispute connected with them or Jagex Products will be decided only by the courts of the United Kingdom.'. Therefore surely that must mean that if you steal a Runescape account, you will be punished in accordance with UK law? I'm not trying to be annoying or anything, just asking.

I can see why this is happening, if you have invested time in something you shouldn't just have it taken from you, especially in a way where you can be completely anonymous in committing the crime.

 

Technically Runescape accounts are virtual property that only Jagex has the right to distribute, so stealing them from another player is technically illegal, however I believe the bigger issue was, as was stated before, the phishing (which is illegal), and botnets (which are illegal).

This is sad.. Is it even true though? if it is i feel very bad.. but iv'e been hacked before i dont think he deserves it buy i think he should pay a big fine possibly $500?

So they didn't arrest him for stealing runescape accounts. He was arrested for phishing and botnets. He used them both to steal runescape accounts. So he isn't going to be charged with, Oh, you stole some kids account, well that is 5 years in jail. Hell no.

Most accounts have recoveries so your fucked if you get caught or try to sell.
