Hm... This is where it gets tricky.

If you look at it:

What's Jagex or whoever filed the charge, going to press? Thefting of stolen goods?

Even so... a criminal suit must be called to action of the good is at the value of $20 I believe? Who gets to set the pricing on the account?

How can they determine if he was actually stealing the account? It's the internet, you can't be sure of anything.

Hm... I don't like this.

 

It takes less than 10 minutes to make a phishing site and no effort is required.. obviously Jagex have done this as a one off scare tactic but they won't take it overseas or do this again.

 

For the people who are like, If they're stupid enough to fall for it, they deserve what they got, that's like saying people who fell victim to a Ponzi scheme or con artist should just live with their mistake...no. Even if you manage to trick someone into giving you their property for an unworthy cause, it's still illegal.

 

The charges they're going to press is most likely intellectual property theft. The guy most likely did a phishing website, which takes Jagex's website designs that were made by people from Jagex. Phishing is illegal and is a prosecutable crime. And I wonder if this is why Fagex redirected their entire website to google.uk

Exactly. Plus when someone sees a headline "Man arrested for stealing online game accounts" they are going to be like, what the hell? So then they read the article and some people will go, hmm, maybe I'll try the game. It's a win win for Jagex. Scare the shit out of hackers, and get their name out there with the world in a ridiculous story that many people will see.

Some of the old school players who have been around since near the beginning are in their 20's. It doesn't make it sad, I think it is pretty neat, unless they devote the majority of their time to the game. If they have jobs and know how to manage their time, etc...imo it is perfectly fine to still log in every so often.


Anyways back to the topic...It is pretty ew any way you look at it pretty much. Kind of a shame to get in so much trouble for stealing something that isn't "real", but it is still sad to see people fall for such things. If someone is crazy enough to believe that they can get "free 20m" just from logging into some site or by giving someone they do not know anything about whatsoever...their passwords, then that is a lesson they will just have to learn. Since phishing is illegal however, the guy took that risk... :love:

What is so great about this game... fucking idiot should be arrested for hacking kids account they obviously spent time on it and he's going around destroying there time and effort.
