Make spam reports public again

Making the current system available to the public is unlikely with the way it's set up, I believe it would take a pretty sizable modification to allow users to view completed reports.

The system that xen uses is highly superior to the system we used on VB in terms of functionality and ease of use, and I for one will fight tooth and nail against ever going back to the old system simply for the sake of giving the user base the ability to view completed reports.

Ultimately only sythe and/or Matthew would know for sure whether or not this suggestion is possible, but as far as I'm aware, it's unlikely.

 

We do, here's an example of what we get (in this case the moderator that handled the reports wrote something on it, most moderators don't.)



Thanks for the feedback n4n0, let's hope Sythe could make some adjustments in order to make reports publicly available, I understand this isn't highly prioritized but I personally feel it was an awesome feature to have.

 

Atleast add which staff did the spam report. So if any of us have questions as to why it was rejected or whatever we can contact them for answers. A simple resolved or rejected isn't enough sometimes.

 

I agree I would like to see something similar to the older VB3 system but it doesn't look likely.

If there were small adjustments, maybe if the tick box for send notification was automatically always ticked, that should be easier for mods. (The odd time I don't receive a notification, I'm clueless as to whether anythings been done - some what feels anti-social)

Most the times you'll know who's responding, for instance depending what section your reporting, whenever I report something in Support Section I know @Brendan is always answering (to me seems the only mod who's efficient when responding/taking action). But if we could know who/which mod is responding? This would be helpful for further follow ups.

I strongly dislike the idea of a response to PM, for someone like myself who has not donated (yet) who doesn't have the $5 privileges of max amount of PMs.. etc.. wouldn't be nice.

If staff when responding actually commented something relative. If I see somethings been rejected, denied etc and theres no comment I'm also clueless as to why.. for new users it would be more appropriate to make them understand why.

If I'm reporting a "friend" or someone I like, I wouldn't care if they see the report honestly, because everyone should abide by the rules. I remember I reported @Wortel for something I thought was pretty stupid of him to write, but I asked if the mod responding could pm him and explain why not to write something like that, cos' he seem so innocent. (Whether the mod did that, idk).

definitely support, i liked seeing responses to my reports & it helped me judge mod feedback too

 

I think the best option would be a minor modification to the system as is to do two things.

1) automatically send a notice and/or PM to the reporting user, informing them the report was handled
2) add the name of the moderator who handled the report to the notification.

I dont see any easy way to make this system visible to regular users due to the way it's set up, so this seems like the next best option.

As for OP's initial comment about using the reported posts to find Skypes, etc for scam reports, this data is already/still is available within the posts/threads themselves so I don't see how the reported posts section is any different.

Ultimately, I'll try to get Matthew or Richard to give a final say in this, but I've got a hunch they'll pretty much say what I've already said.

The major modification to make the reports publicly accessible is a no-go.

He said he'll look into adding the name of the mod into the alert, but this is a low priority modification, so it won't happen right away.
