What is the difference in Affiliate & Referral links?

    The current ruling as per The Official Sythe.org Rules is:

    Currently we have threads such as these around:
    Buffed Affiliate
    [MAKE MONEY REFERRING CLIENTS] www.crazy.gold Affiliate Program
    RSGM Affiliate program! Earn up to 5% of generated revenue!

    From my understanding the difference between the two is..
    Refferals: You're trying to obtain income for your own purpose.
    Affiliate: You're trying to obtain income for someone else's purpose, while earning yourself from it.

    My curiousity has gotten me here; why's the first forbidden and the latter allowed?
